Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I gotta go to bed. Have to get up early tomorrow. Just wanted to hear Bay's diagnosis before turning in!
To: AnAmericanMother; HairOfTheDog
Well, that does sound like a comforting first hand report. Now that Bay's been diagnosed still early enough for help he will be a lot better off.

Thanks! - That is a really hopeful response AAM! I do hope that with care he can be sound. - I agree about the surgical cutting of the nerves. I think that is a response for when the pain is too much for drugs to cover, to keep him comfortable in pasture. I don't think they can be safely ridden when they can't feel their feet.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hate to admit it, but the wife is nice, and very knowledgeable in her own right when we were diagnosing him. She fits him well. A cutie pie just like him. See, this is how it works. You have to say nice things - otherwise you just sound bitter or something. But we're your friends. And we can cop an attitude. Because he would have been so nice for you!!!
Therefore, I just think she's probably got that leash way too short and probably way to perky and cute for anybody. Yeesh!

"Take all the rope in Texas/ Find a tall oak tree/ round up all them bad boys/hang them high in the street for all the people to see that When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune/ We'll all meet back at the local saloon/ We'll raise our glasses against evil forces/ Singing whisky for my men, beer for my horses."

You got an honest precious, too! Well, too bad the vet wasn't unattached, but your time will come!
Glad you got Bay figured out. You'll take good care of him whatever comes up!
I gotta go make homemade candy bars! Clare's Anime Club is having a 'movie night' at the high school tomorrow, and since she and a couple of the other girls are Girl Scouts, we're gonna sell some homemade candy as a fundraiser for the trip to the Big Apple in June. I also have to keep pulling out stuff to sell at the Yard Sale on Saturday. That's what I'm gonna be doing most of the day tomorrow. I might pop back on later to see what's up.

Actually, this horse is being ridden. He's a big handsome Hanoverian who's doing high-level dressage.
His owner has to be VERY careful not to over-work him, and she inspects his feet carefully before and after she rides him.
It really is a last resort, but this is a very expensive and very highly trained horse.
To: SuziQ
Have fun Suzi. What kind of candy bars? I think I want one. Is chocolate involved? If yes, then I know I want one.

Hey, an honest precious!
Wow. That was a long day... 11.5 hours at work, trying to solve a problem. We got it done eventually. Man, I'm tired. Good thing tomorrow is Friday, huh?

I used to ride a horse who drank beer. He was an ex QH race horse (have no idea if that had anything to do with it or not), a big rangy chestnut with an attitude.
If anybody brought a beer into the barn, he would lean up against his stall door and whinny and snort until you brought him some. Either he could smell it from a mile away, or he recognized the 'clink' of a glass bottle.
Wrap a small towel around the business end of a long-neck Bud and just walk over to him - he'd lift his head way up and turn his head sideways and wait - we'd stuff the neck of the bottle in the corner of his mouth through the gap in his teeth and tip it up - he'd go "glug - glug - glug" and it was all gone in a second or two.
We asked the vet if it was o.k., and he said so long as we didn't get him so drunk that he fell down . . .
To: AnAmericanMother
Well, we will see how it goes with Bay! I could tell he hurt somewhere, and it has been troubling me all spring. Now I hope I can make the pain stop. If I can, he still wants to work.

Hey guys.
If any of yall have time, would you drop by here and help me interpret this last post? :')http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/909244/posts
Thanks

Singing whisky for my men, beer for my horses. Thanks for the song Sam!
To: AnAmericanMother
I'm allergic to horses, but grew up around them...I have heard occasionally of them liking beer. I suppose it makes sense, since beer is made from grain.
That is cute that the horse you rode could drink from a long neck bottle.

There. That's better.

Hmm. You'd better get Hair to tell you about that one... are you from Texas? Texans amaze me. Nobody down there seems to be boring. You must not have a lot of WASP types.

You are trying to get me into trouble!!!
To: HairOfTheDog
It sounds like Bay's days as a professional athlete are catching up with him. There's no shame for him in an honorable (and pampered) taking-it-easy now. You're probably taking it harder than he is. Hugs for both of you.
