The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Don't you love snow? Especially when you're home and the fridge is stocked and you have no real need to go out and mess with the traffic. It's so pretty coming down.
Maybe it's because I grew up down in S. Texas and we never saw it, but it just fascinates me to watch it come down.

Oh, I dunno... I grew up in Northern Michigan and saw snow all the time, and it still fascinates me.

Good night my friends.
Here is a night-light to dream by.
To: My back yard
"Can you guys help out on me finding good pics of Legolas. My daughter and niece are asking me, saying they are not happy with what they have found so far. Got any good ones?"This has some good ones: http://www.orlandobloom.co.nz/legolas.html
"Also, I went last night and saw the ad for Pirates of the Carribean. It looks good to me."
Yep, I think that looks good too!
To: Corin Stormhands
"Plus FOTR got a lot of hype when the VHS/DVD came out. So a lot of people who didn't catch it in the theater saw it that way and were ready for the next part of the story."Yep, I think that's a big part right there. And of course the obsessed fans that keep going back. (My 6th time was this afternoon!)

Maybe it's because I grew up down in S. Texas and we never saw it, but it just fascinates me to watch it come down.I heard that, girl! I grew up in S. Mississippi, and I only remember snow in any appreciable amount TWICE in my 23 years there! It snowed about 3" and stayed on the ground 2 or 3 days when I was about 10, then again about the same amount when I was 19!
The first REAL snow either I or SSQ ever saw was when we lived in Indiana for a year. On April 1st, I stood in front of the plate glass window in the living room of the house we rented and looked out over nothing but hills of snow! It was quite depressing because we had been in N. Florida the previous 4 years, and that same weekend in FL we would have been in shorts at Springtime Tallahassee, the annual fair held in the downtown park!
Our one winter in IN got me used to the snow, though, and we've been up North, first in NJ, now in MA for the last 21 yrs!! Wow! I've almost lived in Yankee land for as long as I was down South! At least I don't SOUND like a Yankee, heh, heh!
It is magical to watch snow falling, though, and walking in it is lovely because everything is so quiet! And since we always stock up before the storms come, it is as you said, we can just enjoy it from indoors, with a nice roaring fire to boot!!

Thank you. Those were good ones.

They didn't do a big roll-out for TTT. Just a Verizon co-op, broadcast/print/outdoor media and the press junketts.
I guess Bob Shaye figured the 100 million that launched the project last year, plus the video/DVD/PPV/cable promotion would do it. There weren't even any goodie bags at the premiere parties (BASTARDS!).

I thought all of the actors came across very well in the documentaries (even Liv Tyler, who's gotten some heat here, and I thought she was OK -- of course I'm not too put off by giggly young women, though I can see why more mature women would be). Ian McKellan came across as the commsumate professional and the widely-maligned Viggo showed a tremendous amount of insight. These people may have some really strange and oddball philosophies about life, but when it comes to acting and movie-making they are very much in the realm of their expertise -- and that comes across clearly. I agree with everything you said! I like all of them. The all seem like genuinely nice people.
I love the stories about Sam being all worried about safety, and the stories with Viggo and the little guy that was a size double... cooking the curry and the fish "Well, its not the way I would have done it!" HA! ... and then the story from when they were in the boat. I just like listening to their stories.

Hullo ALL! - Penny is on her way home, we had our day of visiting, watching FoTR, more visiting, watching TTT, more visiting! I fear I just chatter non-stop when I am with her... all this talking we can do without the trouble of typing!

Oh I hope you enjoyed it! - I KNOW you did!
Come and tell us what you think!
Does the VHS have any of the appendices as part of it? The interviews and such?

Had a terrific visit! And I got to meet the whole "family!" The ponies are even prettier in person, and the dogs are all a hoot--real characters, each in their own special way.
The movie was great, even for viewing #4, even though we were stuck on the far left side of the theater with a very restless 4-year-old girl in front of us.
And now, it is WAY past my bedtime! 'night all!

Those size doubles (a couple of them anyway) had the wackiest personalities. I'm a huge fan of curry, so I think the guy's salmon curry might have been worth a try. Don't think Viggo thought so, though!
Sounds like a "girls-day-out". Wasn't the weather horrid yesterday??? More like a "girls-day-in" I suppose.
The wife and I are taking off this morning for Canada and a week of skiing, so I won't be dropping back into the Hole until maybe Friday night (at the earliest). Dogs are off to camp and I'm about as ready as can be to strap the boards on and rip down a mountainside (as only an elf can!). Remember Legolas?
See you all in a week.

Good morning!
I had a loooooong night what with the baby getting up almost every 45 minutes because of her teeth. Glen spent the night out so I was single-handedly taking care of her and Becky (who had decided to stay up until 1AM, just for fun). *sigh*
I was hoping to watch the FoTR EV since Glen was gone and there was no competition for the TV, but it was futile. I've got to swing by my sister's and pick up her Norton Systemworks. She thought she had installed it, but apparently not. And with a certain someone's track record, I have to have virus protection ASAP.
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I need some coffee! Let's have some scrambled eggs and bacon (quick and easy), with hash browns and sausage. Orange juice is on the table. ENJOY!
Gotta run. I'll try to stop by later. :)
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Have a safe and fun trip, Scott.
See you when you get back.
Elf skiing, indeed. Harumph!

Hair-Thought about posting last night, but just wasn't able to adequately express the joy is seeing the additional scenes. Without trotting out all the superlatives that were bandied about last year when FOTR came out, it was just superb.
Although we had a good idea of what was to be added thanks to all the descriptions posted here, it was wonderful to see it the way it was supposed to be. Right from 'concerning hobbits' onto the fade out.
Naturally the rewind was used to effect, (lol) oh, did you see that, wow, that's new, what was that again.. and so it went.
Susan thought the movie was much more complete, having seen the the other version several times, once in the theater and twice on tape. It was just not an extra 30 minutes of film, it gave quite a bit of depth to all of the characters, a minute here, a scene there, the harmony of the film was admirably enhanced.
Favorite new scene, that's fairly easy, ALL of them, the hobbits, the elves leaving, the council, lorien, that especially-added so much, all the extra fight scenes at the end. So much more of Bilbo, Frodo, Aragorn, Galadrial, was explained. Boromir, Celeborn, Gimli, even Haldar got some much needed air time. Wow.
As far as the extras, not sure yet, but a TTT trailer and the 'Making of LOTR' are included. We shall see. After seeing the extra footage, I'm afraid the theatre release just isn't going to get it any more. Now I just wonder if there isn't another 20 minutes or so, carefully ensconced in wooden chest in PJ's Hobbit Hole, just biding its time, patiently waiting for the LOTR-FOTR-TTT-ROTK 12 hour version available....

Good Morning! I'm just having coffee with freshly baked pumpkin bread (is it coffee-time in Tulsa yet?)

The ponies are even prettier in person, and the dogs are all a hoot--real characters, each in their own special way. You are too kind about the horses. They were beasts of the mud yesterday!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Have fun skiing Scott! Yes, the weather was horrid yesterday! Sun today so far. Wish me luck!
To: RMDupree
Good morning Ruthy! Sipping my own coffee this morning, Woke up late, don't have a lot of ambition for the day. Would be nice if I could work the horses a bit if the weather stays nice. I think they may have forgotten how to work!
Sorry for teething baby! - Ouch.
