Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

We don't really have anything near us. But my parents have a weight machine that's really comprehensive and they picked up this NordicTrak thing at a garage sale last weekend. When it's nice, I can go drive to the bike path and do some laps there...
The YMCAs in this area are not very good. Mostly they are glorified swim clubs.

You may get a kick out of this: Today when I was weedwacking there was this big ole stick embedded in the grass, I tried cutting around it, realized it would be better if I got rid of it, ripped it up out of the ground using a lot of pulling and grunting. It ended up being a stick about 4 feet long. I went to just huck it over the fence, and it caught on the weedwacker and I hit myself right in the head with the dang stick!

I said some bad words.

Them attack sticks are tricksey...
Gotta go. G'nite all.

Thought it would make Corin smile! I bet it did. But he's a dwarf. And he didn't let on.

I don't think I know Borders. We have On The Border. I don't care for it. Too bland.

Those machines sound perfect. We had a Nordic Trak a couple of years ago, but for some reason, it hurt our backs. Other folks who have them never had any trouble at all. We're just wierd, but we knew that anyway.
We have a treadmill here, and a Bowflex. The treadmill is in our room, and SSQ uses it regularly. We haven't been able to find a good place to put the Bowflex where we can leave it undisturbed. It is usually in the spare bedroom, but when both the boys are home from school, it gets put away so there's room for the bed!

G'nad; great pics, looks a bit like a part of the Shire to me. Thanks for posting them.

Don't know if you're still around. I was thinking about you earlier in the evening, wondering if you had any luck in the job hunt today.
Borders is a big chain bookstore. It is neat because there are books, CDs, DVDs, etc., but they also have a nice cafe. You can take a book off the shelf and have a cup of coffee while you're perusing it to see if it is something you want to buy. They also have nice comfy chairs place around the store so you can sit and look at books in other places of the store, too.
Clare would like to get a part time job at Borders when she turns 16. The discount would be great for her because she's constantly buying new Manga books!

Hi, all...
Rose and I saw X2 today, for the second time. We enjoyed it just as much this time as the first time. After our first viewing, I had the feeling that this one was better than the first one, but I couldn't really put my finger on the reason why. After seeing it again, I think there were two reasons: the story was more complex, and the actors (and maybe the writers) were more comfortable with the characters. There was a better sense of who each character was, beyond just being a code-name with powers.
We also had fun playing "Spot-the-mutant", just as in the first movie. Some of them were obvious, like Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), Theresa Cassidy (Siryn), Piotr Rasputin (Colossus), and Dr. Hank McCoy (Beast). Some were more tricky. The real fun thing (and the thing I can't wait to see on the DVD) is the computer screen visible while Mystique is cracking into Stryker's files. One screen shows a list of mutant's "civilian" names; the other screen shows a group of folders with meaningful names. Mystique eventually clicks on the "Cerebro" folder, but others there include "Project Wideawake", "Omega Red", and "Franklin Richards" (!) all names significant in X-Men (comic book) history.
A friend of ours who works at a comic book shop told us that it was his opinion that this was the best comic book - to - movie adaptation ever, and I think I have to agree with him (replacing Spider-Man, IMO).
Sorry all, for geeking out so much... it's just so nice when the director and writers so obviously know and care about the background and accuracy of the story they're making.

WN: for real riding, you are correct; but the classic chopper look, like Peter Fonda rode in 'wild angels' (an otherwise quite forgettable movie), has the right look to me. (with a knucklehead and disc brake in rear)

Great job, Lil'freeper!
Got it all posted.Had yet another busy day, working job no. 2, running errands, going shopping. And my best friend found out this afternoon that his roommate died suddenly of a siezure today. Pretty tragic, he was a young guy in his 20's. Kind of makes you think about life a bit more than usual. So I had my friend over for dinner and cooked some salmon steaks on the grill. And steamed broccoli with cheese, and Bailey's milkshakes. Mmmmm.
Back to work now. Later, all!
Am I the only one really really really looking forward to Entmoot '04?

You are a good guy to be there for your friend.... what a shock for a young guy. How sad.

Very good! - Take a break! Watch a good movie perhaps! I decided today that I need to have an epiphany. Might have it tomorrow. Some things around here need to change.
Do you think it would be extraordinarily lazy for me to buy paper plates and cups and plastic silverware for the summer? - I just hate doing dishes and I am thinking about going disposable for awhile! Simplify my life!
To: ecurbh
I am!! You know I dreamed about it, don'tcha??
