Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Have I mentioned this is my last season on the pool board? Is that the high dive or the low dive???? yukyukyuk yukyuk....
To: Wneighbor; Bear_in_RoseBear
Morning all! Have either of y'all see the movie The Rose Tatoo? I think it is based on a Tennesee Williams story, and it is hilarious! It's an old b/w film with a VERY young Burt Lancaster and the Italian acctress, Anna Magnani.
To: SuziQ; Sam Cree
They are painted on using a tool that looks just like one of those Wilton Cake Decorating tubes, but with a very tiny hole. The stuff is a paste that is black. After the paste dries, you flake it off, and depending on the henna, the picture is soft black or a rust color. So, are you artistic enough to be painting on our tattoos? Or are we drafting SamCree for this job when he gets back? Of course if we just have an elven symbol or something it should be okay. I haven't seen any proposals on what to do yet though? We could go with the 9.... or however many showed up...... or however many wanted the tattoo. I tend to like mine a little more artistic and less tribal. But, for one that washes off... what difference does it make? We could photograph all our tat's and post them.

It has been dreary here for almost a week. Haven't been able to mow the lawn cause it's too wet! It is going to be a foot tall by the time we can get to it!
To: SuziQ
NO! Is this another one I should try to find? I bet they don't have it at Hastings.
To: SuziQ
My yard is getting about the tall in places too. And I don't have a lawnmower. I've been having a kid mow. Except it's the child of the people that want to invite us over to argue The War of northern Aggression. And I'm avoiding them.
Thanks for saving me from funkling more.
To: Wneighbor
What do you want Suzi? About a dozen???That sounds like a nice little flock! I can put them around and in the little pond I want to put in! I want some fitties and frogs in my pond. May have to install a solar heater for it, though, so the critters don't freeze in the winter!
To: SuziQ; Corin Stormhands; HairOfTheDog
Hey Hair, he's gotta sleep sometime, then we can tatoo "Elf Friend" on him somewhere VISIBLE! Ever notice how Corin is always talking about falling ASLEEP during movies????
To: SuziQ
I want some fitties and frogs in my pond.would that be Whisting Tree Frogs that you're a wantin'?
To: Wneighbor
yes?
To: Wneighbor
Well I was going to put flowers in mine and all that, but I guess prospective buyers might not think much of it. Harumph! Closed Minded people!
To: Wneighbor
So, are you artistic enough to be painting on our tattoos? Not without some more practice, but I plan on getting that in the next few months. I'm talking REALLY basic here with just a few simple flourishes, since it comes out as a thin paste. I'll bet Sam would be good at them though!!
To: SuziQ
So, you need to practice and we need to figure out what we're going to want that you can do!!! We could try preciouses.
To: Wneighbor
If you can't find Rose Tatoo at your video store, try the public library. It comes on cable from time to time, but you said you don't have that. If I can catch it sometime, I'll try to tape it and send it to you, if you can't find it.

Just checking in everyone!
My family is going to make yet another attempt to go swimming today. We've had severe thunderstorms rolling through everyday around 2 or 3 o'clock. Very pool-prohibitive weather!
We've also got to stop by my FIL grave to pay our respects today. He served in Korea.
I've fried up some ribeyes and eggs, along with OT's hash browns and 7 platters of bacon. The coffee is ready and fresh orange juice is in the icebox. ENJOY!
I'll try to stop by from time to time today, but it all depends on how the schedule works itself out. :)
Oh, I browsed through the posts and noticed some comments regarding the kitchen duties. Let me be the first to say that all are welcome to do whatever they like in the kitchen (I do not presume to have a monopoly there in any way!)...as a matter of fact, the less I have to cook, the better!!! I'm looking forward to spending time on the couch, blabbing away with whoever handy whilst some other Hobbit Hole Dwellers whip up something tasty!
It is also very safe to say that I am not the best cook in the Hobbit Hole. We'll find out who is at Entmoot. *grin*

I don't think they whistle up here, they just croak, and some have a sound almost like crickets. Maybe that's considered a whistle.
I love koi, Japanese goldfish, and I'd love to have some, but again, I have to think about whether or not they'd freeze in the dead of winter!

I'm looking forward to spending time on the couch, blabbing away with whoever handy whilst some other Hobbit Hole Dwellers whip up something tasty! Well then, maybe we should give you a break from kitchen duty, since you've been feeding us every day here in the Hole. The rest of us can take that job on during Entmoot!

Well my horse finished the ride in excellent condition. In fact he checked out with more energy then he checked in.
The bad part is the weather was such that his sysetem was not really stressed. IOW's on Sat. it started raining 30 minutes before we left camp, and stopped raining about 1 mile from camp, so we did 19 miles in a downpour:(, He was fresh and fit the whole ride.
Sunday the forcast was warm and humid, it was actually overcast and cold. I took off in just a tee-shirt because I thought it would warm up, never did.
I was really hoping for hot and humid so I would know if he would sweat good enough. But I am still encouraged at how well he did condition wise. The problems we had were mostly from a lack of experience on his part, not wanting to stand still during observations because he could see other horses going. You know the herd instinct. That just takes going to lots of rides. We both placed third, so despite the weather it was a fun ride.

As lovely as that sounds, it wouldn't be fair! We'll all take a turn in the kitchen.
Chances are, if my instincts are correct, we'll all be spending time in the kitchen talking to whomever is cooking at the time. It won't take much to have someone whipping the eggs while someone else brews coffee, etc.
I have no doubt it will be a community kitchen, with plenty of help around. :)

they have videos at the library?????
I haven't even gone to the library since we've been here. Yes, I love libraries but got a real bad taste the last few years in Waco over walking in with my kids and seeing stuff for gay pride week, Planned Parenthood displays, and stuff like that 10 feet inside the front entrance!
LOL and,.... Bosque county had a library. I went there once when we first moved up from Austin. It was a room about 10' X 12'. There were shelves about 1/4 full. I owned about twice as many books myself as the county library. Their's were mostly multiple copies of the top 10 best sellers from the 2 previous years.
Finally, about 6 or 7 years ago, our town decided to open a library. I cleaned off my shelves and donated several grocery sacks including some nice hardback books. But, after they opened, Myranda went down to get a library card so she could bring books home and they would let us be members because we lived outside the city limits - even though she went to school in town!
