The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I must throw in that Presbyterian Sunday Schools are always conducted, as we say, "properly and in good order".

When we were members of a Reformed Presbyterian Church our Sunday School was doing a series on cultural issues and a urologist did a couple of classes on STDs.

He brought slides...

Was it ever long enough to braid?

It was shoulder length in high school.

Sheesh! I thought my family had issues.

We'll keep you, Myranda and Grandma in our prayers.

And for when your dad gets out of hand, keep a couple of "Blow it out yer shorts" tucked away in your pocket.

She was afraid we'd get our arms caught in the rollers!

My Mom actually did that to my brother once. (or he did it whilst she wasn't looking). She panicked and rather than open the thing up, she just ran his arm back through.

Served him right.

a urologist did a couple of classes on STDs.

When I was young, the wife of our Presbyterian minister had a near nervous breakdown when she discovered two high school kids making out behind the church garage...

Lots of country people just filled in the hollers, a treasure trove for archeologists hundreds of years from now.

Our neighbors swear that the previous owners of our house left a car engine back in the woods behind the house (it's not our land). We can believe it. There are many stories...

My Mom still has one of those tub washers with rollers on it... I don't know if she still uses it though.

One time she accidently ran her own hand through the rollers... hit the reverse and ran it back out. Didn't do any damage, although her hand was sore for a few days afterwards.

Jr. and I just watched The Matrix again.

Did you see that we saw X2 last night. It was way much cooler than the first. I "got it" this time.

What did you think of The Matrix, anyway?

Yes, saw that you saw X2... I'm curious, what do you think made it better than X1?

But, I'm always confronting myself with that Honor they Father and Mother thing. And it's really really hard.

Well I interpret that to mean you never do anything to harm them, but neither do you have to let them do things to harm you. Sometimes just being away is the way to honor them because that means you won't be tempted to knock their blocks off!

I'm sorry you're having such difficulty with them. Sounds like they're still jealous of your relationship to your grandparents, that THEY must think should be theirs by right. But we earn the love we get from other folks in this life, and if they haven't earned it, they won't have it. Sometimes I'm glad I live 1500 miles away from my family. I don't get embroiled in their day to day problems with each other. I can fly in and visit for a week or two, then come back to MA.

I think I'd put it in the back yard and make it a white trash planter.

Heh, heh. That's what I keep threatening to do with the toilet we just took out of the upstairs hall bath!

At our new house I'm gonna have a Virgin Mary statue in the front of the house, and in the back, a St. Francis of Assisi, with flamingos around him!

I like The Matrix. This was the third time I've seen it (okay the second time I've actually stayed awake). Lots of things made more sense this time. Reading the reviews of The Matrix Reloaded helped clear up some things. Still don't think we'll be taking Jr. to see it tho.

As for X2, I'm not sure why I thought it was so much better. Maybe because I knew who the characters were. Maybe because we saw it on the big screen and not just on our tv. There was more intrigue in this one as well.

...(Is Jean coming back?)

If it is an old toilet, it is worth money to people who hate the new 1 gallon low-flow toilets. (sometimes low flow just doesn't do the job)

"That's YoYo Ma's house." It had a low hedge in front of it - the perfect place to plant pink flamingos so they couldn't be seen from inside the house. Too bad we didn't have any with us at the time. :)

He seems like the type who would think they were a hoot!!
