Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

HA! Back when I had a boyfriend in a 80's big hair rock band, we had a party once and all of us girls french-braided the long hair on the guys after they passed out. And put purdy ribbons in it.
To: Corin Stormhands
What? What did I do this time? Hehehe...you two seem to get into conflicts in a religion type context.
To: Wneighbor
I gonna tell you all a story bout a Harper Valley widow wifeROTFL!! When I started reading your post, I started humming that song to myself BEFORE I read to the end of your post!

Never had my hair braided...
Gotta run, need to pick up Jr. from choir practice.

Huh.... some interesting Sunday School classes, then?
I must throw in that Presbyterian Sunday Schools are always conducted, as we say, "properly and in good order". For some reason outsiders call it "I thought they'd all died, they hadn't moved for so long, but then the organ started and they all stood up".

My dad framed the shoelace. That is so cool.
And I don't want to ruin this. It is just so cool that you told us about that. More later.

Never had my hair braided... Was it ever long enough to braid?
To: JenB
My favorite invention is the printing press. I know when some of you were kids, monks wrote out books by hand, but... I love you! Thank you for saying that. It's precious.

I think we chased even WN away with all our trash talk. NO, you made me want to talk to my Grama. I have her for a while longer so I wanted to talk to her.
To: HairOfTheDog
Was it ever long enough to braid? Even if he's only got a half inch we could put some short nubby braids in it at entmoot!
To: Wneighbor
...or we could make it purple spikes.

WHEW. Okay, here's the deal. Why I was gone for a while.
Like I said, I wanted to talk to Grama. So, Myranda dialed so she could talk first. My dad answered. They took Grama to the hospital on Thursday.
This goes back to what I told ya'll about last Sunday. My dad ranting that we were putting Grama in the hospital again and telling us that we were gonna be responsible for her death because she wanted to ride with them 40 miles to meet me to bring Myranda to where I was after she stayed all night with Grama.
I'm severely pissed about that anyway.
But, also, they took her to the hospital Thursday. I am still doing my 3 weeks off work time. Myranda was out of school at 12:30 on Friday. WE COULD HAVE BEEN THERE BY 6!!!! But, they don't call and tell us. They think I'm supposed to be psychic or something!
Do you know that these people, may parents, didn't even let me know when my dad's dad died a couple of years ago? My dad's parents live in the same town I did next to W. I worked in the same town my parents live in. I had to hear about that grandfather's death from a mutual friend of mine and my parents. They did call my brothers but not me.

When I was growing up, we spent our summers at our fish camp. The only washer we had there until the early 1970s was a tub washer with double rollers to wring the clothes. The washer was an open tub with an agitator. When it was done, the water drained, then you fed the clothes through the rollers to squeeze the water out of them. You had to run the towels through two or three times, or they'd take FOREVER to dry on the line! Mama never let us run the thing. She was afraid we'd get our arms caught in the rollers! We stood on the receiving end and caught the clothes after she fed them through. Then we hung them on the line to dry.

or we could make it purple spikes. If he's passed out sound enough we could do face painting or temporary tattoos!
To: SuziQ
I remember those. My grand-dad's mom had one of those. I liked catching the stuff from the wringer. AND she ALWAYS had peach ice cream! ALWAYS.
To: Wneighbor
Good grief.... That is something else W. So sorry.
To: SuziQ
My great-grandmother had one of those that she kept standing in the corner. She had a modern one that she used, but kept the old one.
To: HairOfTheDog
What I experience now is anger. I spent some time outside with the plants trying to get over it. Myranda keeps saying, they're just like that and we can't change them.
At my age, I know not to expect too much. But, I'm always confronting myself with that Honor they Father and Mother thing. And it's really really hard.
To: Wneighbor
Wow, that's really odd behavior from your parents.
Glad I made you laugh earlier. How's your grama, anyway?
