The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Any morning where you find yourself above ground is a good morning! :)

That wouldn't apply in New Orleans. They bury folks ABOVE ground there because the water table is so high!

I have never even heard of that movie! But, from what you say I ought to head out to Hastings about now.

I haven't ever seen American Idol either. Do you think we're really missing anything?

But if you're going to make a ring out of gold, why not go all the way and put a real stone on it? Or a synthetic ruby even?

My thoughts exactly.

but right now, I just can't mentally deal with the idea of him being with someone else.

Well, then let him just be with someone, and don't think of it as 'else'.

Honestly. How old is he? - How long would you have him be alone? 30 years? I hope this doesn't sound harsh, I am hesitant to post it because I don't want to hurt you ever, but especially because I know this has been a hard couple of days for you. It is also hard on him. He is not just missing your mom but his wife, spending every night alone, and not having anyone he can picture spending the rest of his days with. You kids view your mom as someone they can no longer call or go visit. He lost his mate that he thought would be there always. He has life left. It isn't the life he thought he was gonna have. He will live longer and happier if he can find love again. Even if it is a love that is totally different because she brings something new in. She could come along tomorrow, and he may only get one more chance.... I hope you wouldn't have him pass it by.

My parents divorced, of course, before my mom died, and I feared for her being alone. She was middle aged and too fat. But she found Frank. I was 14 and at the height of not wanting to be told what to do, let alone by some new guy, but I was forever grateful that he was there for her later in her darkest hours when she was sick, and I hope your dad finds someone to be a life mate again too. Kids visit and go home. Their divorce and repairing helped me deal with these feelings a long time ago, and realize that it really doesn't matter whether I could love the new person, it matters that they can love my parent. I can love them for that.

I haven't seen it either...but I did listen to a few sound clips and lurk on some of the threads just the same. Was rooting for Clay, but I don't think any of those reality type shows are actually real anyway, so I guess I'm not too bummed that he didn't win.

Our culture has left us.

I still never saw a second of it. I feel that my country now has a common culture that I am an outsider in.

We'll be outsiders together. I've never seen it; not even interested!

She had truly been declared legally blind about 6 years before that.

My mom's aunt was like that. She was a retired navy nurse, never married. Was one of the first women to go down in a submarine, before Pearl Harbor was attacked.

She had so many accidents that they finally took away her license. But when she was still driving and would come to visit, I would always have to go out and re-park her car, because it was in the middle of the street.

After she officially retired from nursing, she used to "sit" with invalids. She talked about sitting with "old people." She was probably 20 years older than most people she cared for.

I don't get that kind of attitude and hope I never get that way.

Don't worry! If you're not that way now, it ain't gonna happen!

Maybe your Dad decided he wanted someone who was more dependent on him. Men get flattered by that attention, sometimes.

Clay is really a fantastic singer, but after my inital disappointment of his loss, I came to the conclusion that it really doesn't matter who "won", but rather whose record I would buy.

As a former singer, I'm a fan of anyone with a range like his!

Ruben has great soul, but when he goes to another genre, he loses a bit of the magic. I love his rendition of Superstar! It's a must hear.

I'm a big fan of the show, probably because I admire singers so much!

I just got an email.... someone one grade behind me in my high school class was murdered by her boyfriend. Living up in King County. - Sheila Sinclair (had a sister Shelley in the same class too - remember?)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May 22, 2003
By KOMO Staff & News Services
KING COUNTY - A woman was stabbed to death, apparently in view of her 3-year-old son, and her boyfriend was arrested in the east King County community of Black Diamond.
What makes this case noteworthy is that it is the first-ever killing in the town, according to police.
A 42-year-old man was treated at a hospital and held in the Enumclaw municipal jail for investigation of first-degree murder after 35-year-old Sheila Sinclair was stabbed multiple times with a hunting knife.
Witnesses told police they heard the couple arguing shortly after midnight, then saw Sinclair come out of their mobile home and stagger toward her mother's home in the same trailer park. She was pronounced dead after neighbors took her to Enumclaw Hospital.
Police say her boyfriend, an unemployed warehouse worker, was found lying in a pool of blood with his wrists cut on the kitchen floor of the residence.
