Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

What do you mean? Do you wish a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether we want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on? :) Any morning where you find yourself above ground is a good morning! :)

it was info i found on the missing dwarfOooo....something good?
To: Wneighbor
Any more news on the semi chase? I don't see it on the news side, for some reason.
To: Corin Stormhands
OOOHHHHH, it's the women you like not necessarily the story:)

That's really sad W....

I love that Saruman brooch!

My dad has been accusing Myranda and I of killing grama. Umm...Corin? I think we have someone else here who needs to be held down for a kickin'. Can you help?
To: Wneighbor
Teehee, I'm thinking long and hard about that Gandalf one! I love brooches and like to find ones that are symbolic or have interesting stories attached to them. Kinda like mens' power ties.
To: Lil'freeper
Days likely. Conclusions to news stories aren't nearly as captivating (ratings-wise) as high speed chases. Yep. They just had a statement from law enforcement. Nice juicy details about the chase, the crash, the foot chase....
then the question.
"Any idea what that semi was hauling?"
"We probably won't have that information for several weeks."
Okay, so just open the trailor dufus. yeah yeah yeah, it might have been a biohazard or threat to homeland security, elvira's panties or something equally dangerous.

When she isn't I will have no further excuse to associate with those people. I feel much the same way about my step-dad. I think I've splained this before, but my family is a little, um...southern in our makeup.
My dad died in 1978. His sister died in 1983. In 1984 my mom married my dad's sister's husband. It's legal, no inbreeding. But it's a little weird.
But for whatever reason, they've decided they really aren't part of the extended Stormhands family anymore. Part of it comes from the way things soured at the church. They left, I left, others didn't. (looooonng story). But they didn't go to the luncheon at the cousins reunion last fall (we were late because of Jrs football game) because it was "for the family."
They've been a part of this family for 50 years, but still consider themselves outsiders.
I think most of it comes from my step-dad. He's just weird. Not only are his politics all fubar'd but he doesn't get the family thing either. A couple of years ago, my mom's brother-in-law passed away. I was out of town so I couldn't go. He let my mom (who was 70 at the time) drive all the way down to Columbia, SC (from SW VA) by herself because he had to work the flea market (his weekend hobby/job).
He also didn't go with my mom back in March when my cousin died. I will never forgive him for either of those.
I hate the fact that he's the only grandfather my boys have left.

No, you'll get to the parts of the story we like. You'll be meeting the dwarves soon. Definitely a highlight...

That's really sad W.... I just choose to avoid the situation by NOT being there. I still love being around my brothers but my mom gives them guilt trips if I visit them or they visit me. Both my sisters-in-law can't stand having to be at my parents house all the time. My older nieces and nephews can't stand my parents, their grandparents. It's twisted.
To: Lil'freeper
I want the Gandalf ring.

Naw - wait till it gets along further.... there will be stuff that appeals to 'guys' in the way you are thinking guys think. Especially in the LoTR. Funny things is that I think the Hobbit historically has been read by both boys and girls, but LoTR was read primarily by young men until the movies came out with hunks in them. Now many young girls (and boys) are reading it, and that is a good thing.
The part that you are in now is the way Tolkien starts both stories, comforts of home, warm lazy life that is suddenly going to change. It is to let you know that not all heros started out wanting to be. They'd rather be home, comfortable and a little too fat. Tolkien wrote much of this in the Trenches in WWII. He wanted, I think to tell the story of the average footsoldier, drafted from comfort into this situation, the average every day people suddenly in conflicts and great acts they never would have imagined. For kids, I think it says "even the smallest person and change the course of the future".

I think we have someone else here who needs to be held down for a kickin'. Can you help? Certainly. I'm in just the right kind of mood.
To: Corin Stormhands; PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Also, keep in mind that
The Hobbit is basically a children's book (though we like it, too!), while the LOTR books are much more complicated.
The Hobbit is just a taste of Tolkien's world...the real meat comes later.
I'm so excited for ya!

Hi and good morning everyone!
I am feeling tons better today, thanks to a nice nap and Glen's surprise present for me yesterday. He took my truck in and had a CD player installed, as well as, bought me 2 CDs...Josh Groban (which I wanted forever and am listening to now) and the American Idol Classic Love Songs (to help me get over Clay's loss on Wednesday). As most of you know from the other thread, Glen and I were going through a really bad time of it, but thanks to your prayers, things are much better! So THANK YOU ALL FOR THAT!
On to breakfast!
Broiled T-bones steaks and fried eggs, 8 platters of bacon and plump sausages and OT's hash browns. Coffee is brewed and juices are chilled. ENJOY!
Have I told you guys how much I love you all lately? I DO!

Umm...Corin? I think we have someone else here who needs to be held down for a kickin'. Can you help? I had a lot of trouble dealing with a lot of things for years. I was accused of being the one driving my grandfather to his death. I loved him so much that I didn't learn what a lie that was and deal with it for YEARS! And fortunately I have raised Myranda away from that atmosphere for the most part so she recognizes that for what it is.... a lie from the pit of hell. I think it gets to me that he's saying that more than it bothers Myranda. But, we went through it all again last Sunday because Grama wanted to ride in the car with them and Myranda to meet me 40 miles away. We heard nothing but accusations that Grama would be in the hospital again the next day, she probably wouldn't make it. Therefore it's our fault. That's so stupid. I'm sorry. I have known I should not open this can of worms here. Just too much garbage. This is my escape.

I want the Gandalf ring. WHAT??? You don't want the Ring of Dwarven Power?
You're slipping, my good dwarf, slipping!
