The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

LOL!! May be. SSQ's sister uses that expression sometimes. It is hilarious to hear her say it!

It's from the movie. That was the first time I ever heard it. The guy that kills himself talks about...uh...them...

Just a check in at the HH...what a hectic week!!

My wife interviewed for a job in town on Monday...which is complicated because if she takes it and then I get a job in Boise, she's got to quit right away. Then it's meet again with realtor in preparation for putting the house on the market (if that happens). And finally today a company in Federal Way that I met with a few weeks ago calls and says they've got some "contract" for me -- a piece meal job that'll take me about 10 hours of work and they'll pay a $1000 for in the next two weeks. Let's see that's $100 an hour...I can do that. They imply further such work in the future...

So things are really complicated, I'm working on "contract", my wife may have a job in town, I may have a great job 550 miles from here in a couple of weeks, I may have more $100 an hour work after this little project locally, and we're getting ready to put our house on the market.

And we have no idea at all how all this is going to come out in the end.

I'm too twisted for words.

Think of the smell!

Okay, so this is based on what my family has told me, so it's suspect to begin with.

Apparently the water just drains through underground caves. Engineers are working to stop the leak. I know it sounds bizarre.

I don't think they know too much, but they're basing this largely on journals written by early explorers in the area.

Here's a view from the air:

Shave a cat?

I just have one suggestion.

Charge $100 an hour.

If a lake leaks on a mountain, and there's no one around to see it...

does it still wash its hands?

I gotta go folks. See y'all tomorrow.

[krinkles nose] but....

Now my brain hurts! Lakes don't leak, and if they did, how could an engineer.... [sigh!]

Let us know if you hear anything else on this!

I felt old and stodgy in my Chuck Taylors, tee-shirt and $10 Walmart elastic waist jeans...

Don't worry about it, honey. I'll bet you were WAY more comfortable than they were!

But I swear, I would never have thought to put yellow flip flops with a pair of pink flowered capri pants! I have no fashion sense!

They probably wore the yellow flip flops (now there's something I haven't heard in a while ;o) to bring out the little bit of yellow in their capris. Am I right? That's what I'd do, and you KNOW I'm a real fashion plate! LOL!

SLC: nice contract; let me cipher a bit $100 an hour times 40 times 52, okay 51, hmmm. That's a bunch, anyway. Good luck on the prospects.

Hi ya'll; Hair; stopped by for a look-see, been traveling day tripping but long days, looking forward to bending some nails this weekend, which includes a couple days extra; picking up some cedar clapboard siding.

WN: even when we're not posting, there are some of us that are along the frontiers, safeguarding the borders, with trusty bow and blade. yes, we're there.

Overtaxed; your 'evil empire' comment made me laugh, that's what a lot of the other companies call the one I work for.

Hair; one of the fellas on the field review yesterday was telling me about his horse, seems it was 37 years old. That is really getting up there, I would think. They have had him for most of that time (30 or so years). Pretty amazing, the kids all grew up riding the one horse, and some grand kids as well (well sort of, with a pad.) Neat story, which I can't tell the way he did.

The one she is bringing is blue. I don't know if our soil will change that or not.

I had always heard that the intensity of the color can be changed by the Ph level of the soil. Does anyone know if it is acid or base that causes the flowers to go more to the deep blue?
