The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hey you...

I'm listening to Pink Floyd, The Wall. First time in years. Comfortably Numb was my absolute favorite song for many years, but I loved the whole album.

Steve took the boys to CiCis Pizza.

There is some good stuff in the Wall.... it is a great study of the full range of humanity, in the absence perhaps of real faith in God. I would have to think about whether faith is just another way of building a shielding wall around ourselves.

This is vivid psychosis, and one of my favorites to wickedly smile at:

Pink Floyd
The Wall (1979)
One Of My Turns

[ Oh my God, what a fabulous room!
Are all these your guitars?
This place is bigger than our apartment.
Uh, could I have a drink of water?
Ya want some? Huh?
Oh wow! Look at this tub!
Wanna take a bath?
What're you watching?
Hello?
Are you feeling ok? ]

Day after day,
Our love turns gray,
Like the skin on a dying man.
And night after night,
We pretend it's all right,
But I have grown older,
And you have grown colder,
And nothing is very much fun, anymore.
And I can feel,
One of all my turns coming on.
I feel,
Cold as a razor blade,
Tight as a tourniquet,
Dry as a funeral drum.

Run to the bedroom,
In the suitcase on the left,
You'll find my favorite axe.
Don't look so frightened,
This is just a passing phase,
One of my bad days.
Would you like to watch TV?
Or get between the sheets?
Or contemplate a silent freeway?
Would you like something to eat?
Would you like to learn to fly? -- Would ya?
Would you like to see me try?
Ooohh. No!
Would you like to call the cops?
Do you think it's time I stopped?
Why are you running away?

I laughed at my boss during the last campaign. He was an old doper totally pro-Bush. Great guy. But, due to his supervisory position he was asked not to wear campaign things as were all supervisors. However, I was the only one he supervised. And we were in agreement. He had an office hidden in a corner. I had a high profile cubicle just inside the door from the plant. Everyone saw my cube first. So, he collected campaign paraphenalia and we put it all up in my cube. We had a very good time of it!

2J, don't give in on the Buff-Orps. The guys need to do what they said they would do. People need to be held accountable. And you need the chickies you wanted. Not sub-chickies.

Clarification.... Substitute Orpingtons. Not sub-species. Beg pardon.

Just trying to get the men to be held accountable.

I have never even heard The Boss play a guitar solo like that one in Comfortably Numb though.

I think the entire album is a very good demonstration of being absolutely at rock bottom and then attempting to claw your way out of it.

That's how I saw it and see it...The CD I have now is the second CD I ever bought. YEARS ago!
