Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Probably depends on what kind.
They sell crickets at the pet store though! - You could buy a bunch of crickets and have night-time ambience as well...

OT: by the smiley face, I take it that's a good thing. :) How is the re-entry into the local labor force going? Did your old boss tell you which part of town he relocated to?
ps. we did end up with bar-b-que; not the ribs though. Tried some Carolina Cupboard western NC style bbq sauce. Could really smell the vinegar, we enjoyed it. Also like the mustardy bbq sauce we had back there, don't remember what it was called though.

I have pretty well decided that I am going to find something from LOTR to read during my toast to the couple at next weekend's wedding.
Do any passages come to mind for you guys?
I haven't started perusing it yet.

Hair; by your posts, you are still with us :-) glad the eggs were okay. Ever try a few shakes of luzianne hot sauce on them, clears the sinuses right quick.
To: Sam Cree
Hmmm... Let's see. Are you going for romantic, or what?

I will think and find some good things Sam!

Most of our lizards are too small for crickets, I think. Mosquitos are more their size, easy to catch, too.

Hair; by your posts, you are still with us :-) glad the eggs were okay. I gave some to the dog.... I figured, if I go, we both go.
Have you hever seen an egg that was pale and not bright yellow?
To: JenB; HairOfTheDog
Definitely romantic, but inspiring also, maybe a hint of the trials of life.
Ha!
Thanks, you guys. I am looking too.

How about "I dont know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve! "

I tried a new Barbecue recipe yesterday. It was called North Carolina Rainy Day 'Barbecued' Pork, and it was for the slow cooker. The recipe called for a pork shoulder roast, but I saw some meaty pork loin roasts and used those intead. I marinated them overnight in the cider vinegar, liquid smoke, hot pepper sauce and worcestershire sauce mixture with chopped onions. In the morning I took the roast out and patted them dry, then rubbed them with a mixture of paprika, sugar, salt and pepper. I put the marinade in the the crock pot, put the roasts in and let them cook for about 9 hours. When I took the roasts out, I shredded the meat, added some catsup to the cooking juice, then put the meat back in the juice. They say to skim the fat off the top of the juice, but I didn't even bother.
It was very tasty, and the folks at the party really liked it! I'll definitely be making that recipe again! There were some leftovers, and that's what we had for lunch and supper. At least what was left after our #1 son had raided it about 2:30 this morning!

Well, LotR is kind of short on the romantic speeches. The only bits I can really think of are Faramir and Eowyn - not sure there's anything appropriate there - and Sam and Rosie, but they have about three lines of dialogue together.

How is the re-entry into the local labor force going? Did your old boss tell you which part of town he relocated to? The local job search just got underway. All I did was redo the Monster resume and sent one to Wyeth. I have one response from the Monster resume in my email but it's the weekend so I'll check it out tomorrow. :)
I hear the Evil Empire is hiring, and one of my "girlfriends" wants me to work at Labcorp with her....haven't applied there yet: they're cheapskates! So with a solid job in KC, think I'll jack up my price and be a bit...um..."saucy" at interviews. Should be fun!
The boss bid on a house in Olathe, but they didn't take the offer so he was house-hunting again last week. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
I always make my own BBQ sauce. It's the Western Style with ketchup, some vinegar, and lots of black pepper.

How about "I dont know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve!" 'Course I'll have to do as Bilbo did, and disappear directly after saying that!

Hello all. Just got back from a weekend down south in the real part of Texas. Have a lot of posts to catch up on here so will get started soon as I get some snack stuff. Hope all it well. Didn't get to see X-Men at the drive-in. Didn't even get to central Texas till after 5. Much too late. Needed to spend more time with Grama than that.

That thing is made from ash, Corin? Yeah. They said they didn't add anything to get the colors, it was just the way the ash turned out when made into glass.

You should get a lizard as a pet and name it Smaug. Jr. and his friends fished a dead lizard out of the bottom of the pool yesterday...
After my first reading of The Chronicles of Narnia I started collecting lions. Haven't added to them in recent years, but I've got a few cool ones. Always regret not buying the onyx lion I saw at the Grand Canyon in 1980. I was supposed to have been back to hike it before now...
To: Corin Stormhands
Hike the Grand Canyon? - Are you nuts? - Mule trip maybe!
To: Sam Cree; HairOfTheDog; JenB
Do any passages come to mind for you guys? You could quote Bilbo...
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
That would work especially well if you didn't like one of the families...
To: Corin Stormhands
Well, *I* like that idea!
