The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Doesn't seem like someone recovering from an LDS problem, does he?

All those posthumous baptisms became problematic when he came back...

Yes, you are right, there are pluses that come with age...it's just that I wouldn't mind getting back some of the physical capabilities that diminish a little after 50 or so.

But I am happy and healthy, no real complaints, I guess.

Daughter is in from college, what a fun time we have been having!

"but my pet peeve, is (and our church does it, so I am glad my children are raised, out on their own), having the teens sit in a group at all. Family is more important then teen groups. They are there as a family to worship God, not socialize, it should be treated as such."

Good point, at the very least, the kids need a break from all that peer pressure, especially during church. Groups of teens are inevitable, but can be very harsh.

OT: dwarf blue corn sounds cool, perfect for blue corn tortillas (flat enchiladas with an egg and big bowl of posole) New Mexico cuisine.

Been an interesting couple of days; been traveling to south central kansas but thursday received word that a coworker had passed away. A forty year man, put in his papers the first of march to retire in mid april. Worked with him for a bout 30 years, 15 years on the same projects. Went into the hospital April 1, with breathing problems, diagnosed with pnumonia (sp?). He spent the last 3 weeks in ICU. Friday was the visitation and rosary; he was buried today, I was privledged to be a pall bearer. A fine husband, father & grandfather, a heck of an engineer, and a gentleman. Heck of thing, he had wanted to move back to the town we live in after he retired, well, I guess he did in a way, he is buried in the local cemetery. But you know it goes on, life that is, this evening we went to our former neighbors' granddaughter and grandson high school graduation party. Thanks for listening.

Yeah, I agree Corin.

It's an honor to be a pallbearer, OB, but a sad one. But I hope we'll all see our friends and loved ones in the hereafter.

Not that I'm religious or anything, hope so anyway.

It's supposed to turn green when you cook it.

Sorry to hear about your friend OB. It really stinks that he didn't get to enjoy his retirement. :(

I forgot, what's the purple hat society

It is for women age 50 and over. The idea comes from a poem written by a woman that goes,"When I am an old woman I will wear a purple hat with a red dress that doesn't match." So the Purple Hat Society has get-togethers where those 50 and over can wear the purple hat and red dresses, while those under 50 can wear lavender hats and pink dresses.

SSQ's sister sent me a picture of herself and her friends at one of the gatherings.

I gotta get me a purple hat so I can start wearing it in July!!

Hmmm, got to think about that a little, some of us old folk look sharp. 'Course, I'm not one of 'em.

Jeanne is, though :-). Yourself, also, I'm sure.

A fashion plate, I am not. Never have been. Mostly because I have been overweight since I was a teen, so I couldn't wear the typical teen clothes because they didnt have Plus sizes back then. I started sewing when I was in the 9th grade, and made many of my clothes through high school and college. But I never had clothing that was in the style of the day. Mostly I didn't like the styles anyway, except in the 70s when jeans and big shirts were in fashion. Then I fet right in! Clare is like that. She cannot stand the skimpy tops and pants that are fashionable. She just wears T's and jeans or khakis.

Good night Suzi. I like jeans, and, wear them, mostly. My daughter likes small stuff, but only to a point. Jeanne doesn't, really.

It's so quiet here tonight.

Good night everyone.

It was a gorgeous day here Saturday, sunny, but chilly. bI spent most of the day in the grocery store or back in the house getting ready for the party. Did get out on the deck for a bit just before the festivities, but it was rather chilly!

Night all.
