The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

One thing regarding ants and flies in horses!

I have about six BIG ant-hills in my pasture that I tend like a bee farmer! (different kind of ant than these little dinky barn ants)

I have witnessed the ant brigades raiding horse manure in the pasture and carrying off the fly larvae. I thought that was a good thing if true, so I looked it up, and other insect larvae is one of the things ants eat! So I love my ant-hills. The biggest source of flies around horses is manure piles where the flies lay their eggs.

I have a friend that burns them and kills them, and he has a lot of flies.... I don't have many flies, so in part I credit the ant-hills for that! I told him about it, and he couldn't really say that the ant-hills did any harm, so he is gonna try leaving them too.

I'm only 5'10" but it seems like almost always I end up dancing with shorter guys. I hate that. I'd ALMOST rather not dance. but i won't go quite that far. I don't really even like dancing with someone who is the same height but I hate looking down on my dance partner.

OH Man. Poor pony must have been miserable!!! I have to move the location of our cat food every few days because of ants. It stays clear for 4 - 5 days when I move it but they eventually always get there.

Sorry I didn't see all the thread from last night. I said I was here. Downloaded the photos from the digital camera, read some of my comments from yesterday and could not stay up any longer. It was really stupid of me but I didn't do the things you know you're supposed to do in the outdoors yesterday. I teach outdoor skills to kids sometimes but we don't think of dehydration right in town standing in front of a business. Dumb dumb dumb. but at least i'm not a demlib.

Heh, heh, I'd call that an Eclectic taste in music, and very similar to mine! I especially love medieval and renaissance music. I found a group last year that I love, it is 'Sequentia', I have two of their CDs, "Aquitania", with music from Aquitanian monasteries of the 12 Century, and "Edda" with musical renderings of songs, and stories from Medieval Iceland. I just realized I haven't opened that one yet, I'll do that right now! The kids think my music is wierd. LOL!

I DO love good rock music, country rock, and folk music. I even like some of the music from the 80's! I liked 'Crowded House' and 'Dire Straits' and a couple of the other bands. Never could get into INXS, and the band that wore those flower pot looking things on their heads in the music video.

Except I like some of the more modern sounding Celtic stuff...like Old Blind Dogs and Wolfstone.

I'll have to check out Wolfstone and Old Blind Dogs...just to see. They're on GL, aren't they?

catching up now..... probably still missed some things anyway. but.

I am utterly failing to catch Matrix fever... I saw it one time a long time ago, but barely remember it. I must have a piece missing from my set! So I won't see this one in the theater, it takes a big deal to get me to a theater anyhow. I will watch it later at home with Ramius, perhaps after seeing the first one again with him tutoring me.

I didn't get it either. I had people I worked with rave about it. They talked about how deep it is. How you had to really pay attention to get it. Uh, I didn't. I thought it was okay but not deep. I will wait till it's out on rental as well. You and Ramius want to come to Texas to watch it with me? I could order pizza.

is it beyond hope that at least one orc might have had the brains to take note that their big exit was missed in favor of us?

Nah, they'd never see you unless you were wearin' the precious anyway...

Terro Liquid Ant Bait. It's basically boric acid and sugar in liquid form.

That's EXACTLY what I got! It works like an absolute CHARM!

LOL... oh, I think I get it.... but I just don't think I'm into it. Myranda saw it Wednesday while I was in Ardmore the first day. She liked it very much. Since she has seen it I am under no obligation to see it until you and Ramius get here. Pizza or TexMex?
