Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Thanks for the promo offer. But I'm in Virginia.
Now I'll have to think of something else to write!

Like Corin said...we'll just nag you until you do...hopefully Hair has linked you to the Tolkien Virgin series that have been posted...someone else who is reading LOTR for the first time has been going systematically through his books and giving his/her impressions of them. I think he/she just finished with The Hobbit...and really, if you start anywhere, The Hobbit is the BEST way to go...not what the Tolkien Virgin did and start with the Silmarillion...there are some Tolkien geeks (like me) who have yet to read those.
The Hobbit was written with JRR Tolkien's children in mind, but I think you will find it is far from patronizing...and indeed it has a lot of elements that adults can appreciate. THEN you can go onto Lord of the Rings, and let us know who your favorite character is....I am QUITE positive you will see what an intelligent and inspiring little guy Peregrin Took is, despite the distractions of certain dwarves and elves *wink wink nod nod say no more say no more*
Now I'll have to think of something else to write!
Corin, trust me, once you get into it, the problem will then become what NOT to write about!!! But if you want a good place to get material, look around at other blogs...its probably best (since you are just starting out) to avoid 'Fisking' which is (from what I have been able to determine) critiquing the opinions of other bloggers and just say that so-and-so's post got you to thinking about A, B, or C, and go from their with your own opinion. I dont think any of them will argue with you if you specify that you agree or disagree with them, but its generally frowned upon if you spend your writing on what their opinion is, rather than the subject that started it all.
Corin, Venomous Kate at Electric Venom has some excellent tips for a successful blog, as does Dean Esmay (he is in my US section of the blogroll)

Corin, trust me, once you get into it, the problem will then become what NOT to write about!!! I know. It's really just getting back into the regular pattern of writing. I slacked off for a while after my other sites imploded.
I was pretty successful with Themestream until they went under. I had a couple of articles linked to WorldNetDaily during the 2000 campaign. That was pretty cool. At that point Themestream was paying 10 cents per unique hit. The articles that were posted to WND got over 2000 hits each!

Corin : :D!
I have to go pick up the kiddos now, but I also wanted to point out to PNAMBC...with the exception of Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Gimli and Legolas, the movie is not exactly on target with the characters in the book...they are NO LESS as wonderful, but I have spent many an hour defending Pippin against those who think he is an airhead...and it is solely because of the movie. Movie Pippin is very little like Book Pippin...but Billy Boyd ROCKS as Pippin, so you will see what a dilemma I have!!
gotta go...
