Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

When SSQ graduated high school in 1971, it was the first year his MS delta school had been integrated. My graduation was in '76. Our school had been integrated since '70. Our school dances were integrated. They were all held at the high school and all was okay. No problems. There was a lot of racism in our city but it didn't seem to reach that point.

I thought about getting a rooster ....But I figured Gidget would eat it.I don't know, Hair. You might end up with a Rooster with an attitude! My cousins had a rooster and chickens when they were young, and that Rooster was MEAN!! When my Granny would go outside to hang the clothes to dry, that stupid Rooster would chase her across the yard. She even nailed him once with a broom, and the doofus kept coming back!! They had to put him in his cage so folks could go out in the back yard!
If you ended up with one like that, I'd bet Gidget would give him some room to roam!

Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius"Wasn't that the most fun movie? I got that one on DVD for our son last year before our road trip to FL. He must have watched it 6 times that week, but I never got tired of it!
To: SuziQ; Wneighbor
I dont wanna be chased all over the yard!

What will Overtaxed think of the thread come morning? Guess you'll have to keep wondering. I don't have time for spam.
Good Morning!
To: 2Jedismom
Don't worry 'bout that!

With my job I
had got to spend all 10 days at the National Scout Jamboree in 2001. Fort A.P. Hill is "tick heaven." The military treats the area with something (agent orange maybe), but we supplied our staff with this:

I still have a case (wonder what the shelf life is?)
Hullo! Good morning! I was runnin' late 'cause I had to take Jr. to school early.
Dadburn early-risin' socialists...

I think you're wise to ignor the ignorrant. Like Corin and the religious wars. You know, a little puntuation editing and I could be really offended by that...
To: Ramius; Wneighbor; HairOfTheDog
That's what you say now... but then you've got to get tigers to get rid of the pit bulls, and then elephants to get rid of the tigers. By the time you have elephants with their heads embedded in your skin you'll be wishing to have the ticks instead. You were still typing that from the bar, weren't you?

Yeah, but to explain it we'll have to start a P.G. Wodehouse thread... Woo-hoo! I love P.G. Wodehouse! Have you seen the BBC series "Jeeves and Wooster"? They did a pretty good job. We have two seasons worth...don't know if there were any more. Just spent this weekend watching some, as a matter of fact.

My graduation was in '76. Our school had been integrated since '70. Dang y'all! I thought we were the holdouts in Virginia. Our schools were integrated the year I started - 1964 (I'm also a 1976 grad).
I think though, that's why the Mrs. and I have some different ideas about homeschooling but particularly "Christian schools." A lot of the Christian schools were started because schools were desegregated. It had little to do with the quality of public school education (at that time).

There are five bedrooms. I think three have been claimed for the families (is that right?).
The rest of us will just fill in "wherever." Several of us will sleep on couches or the floor or maybe even camp outside. If you need a particular arrangement, just speak up (carton for instance needs a bed because of back issues).
Special requests don't upset us.
To: Corin Stormhands
Well, because of my back, I guess I'll need to be sleeping in a bed. I'll freepmail you the reasons.

Thanks, Corin!
