The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, with just two chickens, probably not much of a business...

They are going to be pets. They are supposed to be particularly gentle, this breed. I read on the "Chicken Board" that a woman had this breed and it would like nothing more than sitting on her lap and getting petted!

The boys want a pet and I don't want to spend a fortune. The chicks themselves cost about $2.

the boys were stuffed on either side of the toilet with pillows and their bicycle helmets on.

Did you convince them to make this an adventure? We have had a couple of adventures in the pantry at our old house.

You know, it was amazing, but they literally nearly slept through the thing! Sat there dozing! It was about 2:30am and we just jerked them up out of bed. Amzing what kids will sleep through!

After a few years of living on a very windy plain I quit even taking the kids to the pantry. One night there was a horrible storm. Myranda got in bed with me, we opened the windows and watched a wonderful lightening show. The house shook. My water glass fell off the table by the bed. We talked, and slept. The next morning the trees across our farm road looked like they got caught in a blender - completely spiraled. We kind of looked at each other and laughed. We didn't realize it was that bad. That was before we got our HAM licenses and started storm watching. One thing about it, Myranda COULD someday get herself into a dangerous situation though, she just doesn't know WHEN to get out of a storm.

gee, i guess that's what i get for making it an adventure in the pantry huh? maybe you better not do that.

Good morning all. Happy Mothers Day to all the moms.

We had a nice adventure in DC yesterday. The timing worked out perfectly because we were due in Manassass VA for my nephew's college graduation party so we stopped off in the district on our way down. Fortunately, it did stop drizzling- just as we were getting back on the metro to head out of the city. *sigh*

We didn't get carried away with photo-ops, mainly to keep the fair hobbit out of the rain, but got shots of the Washington monument and the White House. Frodo was a big hit! A group of girls at the WH asked to have their photo taken with him and other folks kept shouting "Frodo!" like they were saying hello to an old friend. It was pretty neat.

The photos are straight off the camera- no compression or anything so they might be kind of large for now. But after I hit the stops in Baltimore and locally, I'll put together the whole journal entry and get the pics compressed down tight.

The following link to full size. Apologies if they're slow to load.

Flat Frodo on the DC Metro:

Flat Frodo at the
White House visitors' center.

Washington Monument!

The White House!

Other locales coming soon!

I like this! But, you did explain to them that Frodo belongs to Hair. And she isn't sharing her hobbit for female company!!! She's only allowing him to have a little travel adventure... you did let 'em know right?

So, did you tell 'em about the Hobbit Hole?

Took two brothers and some flowers over to my grandmother's, then came back... the house is ready for my mother's homecoming, and my sister and I bought her a gift yesterday. Now I have an hour and a half until I go to pick my sister up... ugh, that's three hours each way in a car.
