Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good night WNeighbor!
To: Wneighbor
blood-wise, she is not connected. But, she and I ignor that. Good for you! What do your 'grands' call you? My Mama is 'MiMi', and SSQ's Mom was 'Granny'.

Good Morning!
So far I haven't seen anything like that. They're sprouting new leaves like crazy.
Beatles are okay....just not something I'd spend money on. :)

Good for you! What do your 'grands' call you? My Mama is 'MiMi', and SSQ's Mom was 'Granny'. My grands call me Granny too. When my first daughter was born I wanted her to call my mom Granny. Granny was my favorite on the Beverly Hillbillies. But, my mom thought it made her sound too old. So, she is 'Mimi.' When my daughter started dating my s-i-l he had custody of the grand-daughter that's in Portland now. She was only a few months old then. As she grew and started learning to talk, there was confusion about what to call 'us.' I figured it didn't make a hill of beans whether the two of them ended up getting married or not, both the sets of 'real' grandparents were in far away states so I became Granny way back then.

Morning OT. I went for a morning walk outside with Smeagol and my mint/wormwood bed looks positively naked!!!! But, it WILL grow back. I cleared a lot out yesterday because it was encroaching on the neighbors. I'll grab some sulphur and dust that rust this afternoon. Need to stop after church and get a couple of tomatoes and peppers anyway. I've finally filched enough room for them I believe.
*sheepishly* I don't actually spend my money on much of any music for me anymore. I buy for Myranda and then just listen to what she turns on. That's pretty radical for me as I used to have budget money for concerts and albums as top priority.

I was going to put some tomatoes out this weekend but.....I left them at my house. Guess I'll do that next weekend. I have some okra seeds soaking to put out today and then some watering to do. As soon as I put stuff in the ground the skies dry up! :) All the storms have been north of us.
I'll buy CD's when Green Linnet has sales. I listen to Music Choice on cable or streaming Internet radio.

Breakfast OT? I made it for them Texas people to try to get 'em goin' this morning. Of course, the Hobbit Hole gets dibs on anything first. Lots of hash browns.
I've got steak and eggs; fresh, hot, homemade biscuits, bacon and sausage, hash browns a few early sliced fresh tomatoes and plenty of juices. Salsa, butter and several kinds of homemade jelly are on the table. Hot, heavy, dark coffee is on the stove. Oh, and I just make up some gravy to go with them biscuits. Dig in and enjoy.

It sounds like you're doing a really good job with your granddaughter - and there are things more important than blood, I think you are her grandma. :)
My mother comes from a broken family, so I have a step-grandmother. None of my grandparents have ever been good role models, or even fun people to be around. I feel very cheated, but my divorced grandmother is chronically depressed, my grandfather and his wife are, well, 'elitest' is the best way to put it though they're not liberals, and my dad's parents had a son my age to raise while I was growing up. I never got 'spoiled' and I encounted all the worst aspects of sibling rivalry.
But anyway, it's Mother's Day, so in honor of my own mom, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and grandmas on the thread!

Good morning! Steve is still asleep so I am sneaking a freep.
I got my mom a card that has Garfield on the front and it says "Mom,I was thinking over the years how you tried to raise me right and teach me how I should act as an adult and I just have this to say"...then you open it and it says "At least you gave it your best effort and that's what really matters..." and it shows garfield sitting in a reliner with big bowl of popcorn and a bunch of empty coke bottles sitting around! LOL She loved it!
I also gave her a rose with some babies breath and a gift card to Kohls...I call it her "arthritis cure" because I went with her to a sale (when I originally found the boy's shoes, you know) and she parked in the handicapped space (she has a card) and staggered to the door and then practically broke out into a gallop to get to the sale items. It was hysterical.
Probably won't be back much today either...what with it being Mother's Day and Steve being around constantly. Thanks to everyone who was thinking about us during the bad storms...we are still watching the weather...this is a nerve wracking time of year.

Mmmmm....breakfast sounds good! I was over on the Lone Star Chat thread last night just giving some friendly advice on how to have a nice sociable HH-like thread to chat on and it seems that I am now on the Lone Star Chat Thread ping list! Maybe I should suggest that they have some pork barbecue?
To: 2Jedismom
Good Morning! I was starting to get worried when you didn't post yesterday.
To: Overtaxed
I knew people might!! But I couldn't get in during the day and by the time Steve went to bed, I was exhausted too..
He might take a nap today...we teach the 3 year olds today and we're just going to sunday school...

Hair; Morning-quite a windy day yesterday av. 25 mph and gust to 50 mph according to the local weather station. Heavy duty weather moved east.
Susan clipped some iris and brought them in, some of the beds are fairly exposed so they were getting pulled out of the ground.
Tung oiled a couple of the bows. and went clothes shopping for work clothes, a periodic (say once every couple a years) ritual for me, not real big on shopping period and getting slacks and shirts for work is right up there with root canals on my list of "favorite" things.
Going to head out for a store bought breakfast today. Bit brisk for gardening yet. 45 degrees with a stiff wind. IHOP look out here we come.
btw- "konza" aka kansas - "people of the south wind" got that right.

Sounds like you ought to be okay up there. Green is definitely NOT the color that's supposed to be in the sky! It looks like from here that this won't be like last night. Hopefully, I'm not just getting that impression because the storms aren't close to me.The storm system seems to have faded out before it got here. Just a little bit of rain now and then. The cold front following it hasn't arrived yet, temperature is still 65.

I figured maybe you were worn out from Friday night and also kept an eye on the Weather Channel yesterday to see if anything was happening around Tulsa. Then there was the "Steve Factor" to consider. :)

Oh! Jen, Thanks for the Mother's Day wishes. they will probably be my only ones for the day as Myranda ALWAYS forgets EVERYTHING and Jill and I already had our 2 hour talk for the week. But, that's cool because I'm always late with that stuff myself.... i forgot to get the gift in the mail that i have for my Grama. eeewwwww, I knew there was a reason I needed to get to the post office Thursday and I blew it off.
I just want to give credit where credit is due on the grandmother thing. My family is EXTREMELY petty about relations. Some steps have gotten a really ugly deal over my lifetime. But, my first husband's stepdad was an awesome role model. He refused to acknowledge any difference in step and natural. When I divorced that guy and years later married Myranda's dad, that ex-inlaw couple became Myranda's grandparents also. I could tell no difference in even their attitude between Jill and Myranda. It was incredible. AND when Jill's dad remarried, he married a lady with the same attitude toward Jill, she has loved her and treated her like another daughter for about 24 years now. So, I honestly would not have known to treat Courtney right if it hadn't been for my first husband's family. They are awesome folks.

I was worn out...I was almost over the dizziness I woke up with the other day and then this threw me back into it. I got a good night's sleep and feel pretty sure on my feet this morning.
I ordered my chicks from the feed store! I ordered two of these...pullets (females)...

2J, you have a happy mothers day and enjoy your time with Steve and the jedis.
I forgot to mail my grama's present. argh. i do that all the time.
To: 2Jedismom
You're getting into the egg production business?
To: Wneighbor
Thanks for your prayers Sis! We were pretty scared at one point...the sirens were blowing and we were crouched down in that bathroom. Steve and I had a blanket to throw over all us and the boys were stuffed on either side of the toilet with pillows and their bicycle helmets on.
My mom is ordering a safe room. She's going to have it put in her garage.
