The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The times when I was thankful I had the 20 were when I friend and I were going to weekly skeet shoot night at the gun club, where we would sit for a whole evening and shoot 5-10 rounds of 20 birds. We did that every week one summer. My shoulder would get sore, but my friend with the 12 got positively bruised! - The guys that do that kind of shooting have skeet guns with springy stocks, and those of us with field guns just suffered at bit toward the end!

If she is just going to hunt, she can learn to use either, certainly. I had the stock fitted to me and put a nice Packmire pad on mine.

they are a little more forgiving and can reach out a little more, too.

So I have an excuse for missing so much then!

It was funny when I was hunting with Logan and Zulu. I had missed every bird they put up! - Zulu still got a kick out of watching them fly away! I wondered if when I finally got one, it would break Zulu's heart. "Oh! - I didn't know you were trying to KILL it!" HA! Logan liked that part, he'd kick in if there was a bird down.

I think you're probably right. AOL has been a huge problem in our shop. It is now banned.

Hello! First time here in the Hobbit Hole :-)

I have not yet read the books..I just started "The Hobbit", but am a BIG fan of the movies. I was happy to find this thread. Um..I don't think I'll catch up on all the messages, but will just read from here on out lol.

By the way...just curious, but are any of you on the boards over at lordoftherings.net? I go there frequently and wonder if I maybe read something of yours already...

Why is coconut imprudent?

Makes me gaseous, dear! I had a Mounds candy bar about 3 weeks before Clare was born. Dang thing did such a number on me I thought I was in labor! So I'll pass on the coconut, thank you.

Hi Sam! Welcome back!! I never went hunting with my Daddy; didn't want to get up that early. Same reason I never went shrimping with him! I did go fishing with him a couple of times, though. It was a lot of fun!

I'm so glad you had a good time with your kids during the holiday!

The potato guns were a huge success

Glad to hear it!! Did you make any mods to the design or did you make them pretty much the same sort? Any pics?

Welcome! Looks like you're a Narnia fan! This is a fun bunch of people, and if you have the chance from time to time, go back to the beginning of the thread and work your way up to get a sense of the different personalities.

Hullo Dawntreader! - Welcome to the Hobbit Hole. We won't make you read all the back posts! We would all like to hear your impressions as you read through for the first time! I am glad you are starting with The Hobbit! Shows that you are not a hasty type!

Did you mean TheOneRing.Net? - I am not even aware of a message board at Lordoftherings.net. I have never registered over there. I don't know anyone here who does. I find their board software to be really horrid to drive around in, so I haven't read it much!

Welcome! Welcom! Don't feel like you have to read the whole thing. Our Hobbit Hole is more like a daily for us Hobbits, Dwarves, Gondorians, Beornings, Ents, and .....oh yeah, Elves who like to talk Tolkien.

I don't know about lordoftherings.net but I think a few of us might post at theonering.net.

I combined your design with another one I read about. I followed your advice on the smaller diameter barrel and the lantern igniter, but made the barrel shorter to fit in my long duffel that I travel with + used a smaller combustion chamber. The naptha worked good, better than the hair spray that I also tried. Now I am fascinated and will probably make more.

I managed to shoot out 2 floodlights in a tree with one potato, this caused a rather funny chain reaction that led to a "ghost" story.

Getting a shower now, as we are filthy from traveling.

Nice to see you guys and everyone again.

Thanks Hair! Yes, Erkenbrand. I always thought that Erkenbrand and Dernhelm were the coolest Rohirrim names.

I'm going to love seeing the extended version of TTT. I was especially happy to hear it's a whole extra half hour, just like FOTR. Lord willing, I'll have a DVD player by then and can watch it at home instead of at my folks, which is where I finally saw the extended FOTR.

Love the point made on that TTT thread about the reason behind the whole Aragorn/warg/death in the river segment. The need to get separation from Eowyn for that crucial reunion scene at Helm's Deep. Big help to me in understanding it. PJ handled it well, she gets all dreamy eyed towards him and then sees Legolas hand him back the Evenstar. Harsh! LOL...
