Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

BWAAAA HAAAA HAAA HAAA HAAA.
I thought you liked ballet Corin!

Well, I'm up to it if you and Hair want to. But, JenB was the one that wanted the party and she can't do it till Saturday now. What time Saturday Jen? I am not available till evening. And, what recipe Jen?
When Jen picks her recipe of choice the rest of us could try the other one tonight.
Beating up brothers sounds fun. I haven't done that in like ... 30 years. Want some help? Wonder if I'm still any good at it? wish my brothers were cool like Hair's brother and came to FR.
To: Sam Cree
Your storms may be local storms, Suzi? Yeah, that's prolly what they were. I'm sure the Gulf of Mexico had a lot to do with them. You know what I mean, those afternoon thundershowers that last an hour or two, then it clears out, but doesn't seem to have cooled anything off!
To: SuziQ
Isnt' it wonderful to have something that reminds us of home from so far away? Yes it is. Surprisingly so. It doesn't make sense that it should be a comfort to me to walk out in the yard and see those flowers with Grama 250 miles away and very ill. But, it does.
When I moved to Washington the first time I married I think I might have been a lot more content had I had some things like this to keep me close to family. I felt so cut off and alone. Now, here, just these plants make that connection for me.

Well, I will go work my horse.... if we decide to do it later, I would still be game!

Well, I will go work my horse.... if we decide to do it later, I would still be game! works for me. we might even be spontaneous, never know.
To: Wneighbor
we might even be spontaneous, never know. I have put the potential for spontaneity in my calendar.
OK - off to work the horse a bit now!
To: Wneighbor
Well, around 7 Eastern Saturday, I'd say, and I prefer the new recipe to the original.

Tornados on the other side of OKC on my news right now. They're headed towards 2J.
To: Wneighbor
I just saw that, T-storms forecast for Tulsa tonight, the dangerous kind, that come with a cold front.
I think I'd have a hard basement if I lived out there. Could use one in Miami too, but you can't dig here, the water table is too close.

It's almost heading up I44 now. It's north east of OKC. Maybe the worst will turn more northward and skip between the major metro areas.
To: Sam Cree
There is a definite hook on the radar. We are under T-watches all around here too. It looks unstable outside. I see high towered anvils out my south window.
To: Wneighbor
Never have seen a tornado, just water spouts, which don't scare me too much, as I can usually count on outrunning them.
Hurricanes frighten me, however. Did you know that a significant amount of the damage done by hurricanes is from embedded small tornadoes that they always have?

To: Sam Cree
Yes, I knew about that. We lived on the Texas coast when hurricane Carla came through in .... '1960 I think. I've been fascinated by weather since then. I still have vivid visual memories of that - not horror memories, just vivid memories of the power. A few years later, my dad's parents were living on the coast again when I believe it was Alma came through. I only saw the immediate aftermath of that one.
But, one phenomena that's very common here is that we almost always have many tornadoes inland when the storms hit land. Several years ago, I can't remember which hurricane but it hit the Texas coast and storms were spread extremely far north. I guess I tended to think that they didn't go past Texas, but I was on my way to Sturgis with a group of friends and we were flown over by a tornado about 3 miles south of Colorado Springs. A horrible t-storm had overtaken us, hail, lightening etc. but there was no place for us to stop so we made a run to the Springs. Saw the tornado come off the mountains and still, nothing really we could do. Just hit the throttle and got to shelter ASAP. Got, to friends house there and they also told us about watching the tornado leave the mountains just south of their house. All we could say for a little bit was, "Yeah, we saw that."
To: Sam Cree
Do you see a yellow or greenish sky? /I>naaa. I'm not concerned here now. I think it will rain a bit shortly. It's felt like something brewing all day but it doesn't feel that way.
