The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Gees........ I just looked at my weather forecast for the day. It's supposed to get up to 94 and the humidity is 79%. Good grief. Sauna. I'm gonna go put on some shorts and go start my shopping. Maybe I'll be done by noon.

would go to a store and pick them all up and hold them....

Good idea.

I wonder if our local (well...sort of local) Wal-mart actually has any of the models on their website. There aren't many other places for me to look! There's Sears, but something about that place makes me uneasy...maybe it's the tens of free credit offers they've made in the last few months. I don't take kindly to snail mail spammers. ;-)

The life of the batteries may dwindle over time, and you might have to replace batteries.

I have an electric trimmer I would give you if you were just down the street.

I'm told that there is a second offer letter (one with relocation benefits) on the way, but I haven't seen it yet.

Well, that's sounding better. Hopefully, if it's good there won't be any tornados to wipe the place out today.... and if the letter isn't what you need should be say otherwise?

I like Feed and Farm supply stores, because the guys there USUALLY know a tiny bit about what they are selling... they have at least been to a farm and used the stuff!

Sears has a little higher caliber help in their tools dept too.... USUALLY.... than WalMart... I would wonder if the person at Walmart lives in an apartment and was working the kitchen department yesterday.

You know on my budget as a single mom.... I've been known to go ask the guys at the Farm store and then buy something at WalMart. It isn't the worst of moral offenses.... if there's a scale.

Our local feed stores don't sell power tools. But I guess I could go to the hardware store. They're usually pretty knowledgeable, though some of them can be a bit condescending.

If I go to Wal-Mart, I usually try to do my research FIRST. Ditto for Staples and computer stuff...I have to resist the urge to strangle some of the sales people there when I hear them giving bad info to customers. Grrrr!

Naw, nothing to be done, it's like brain damage. Damage to the nerve. It comes and goes, always in the morning. I woke up with it. It'll pass here in a while.

They don't know why I lost my hearing and they don't know why I have this vertigo, other than some kind of nerve damage to my brain. It's why I have that part of my brain and ear donated for research...apparently it happens, rarely but it does happen and they don't know why and they can't study it well on live specimens because of the location. They suspected it might be a viral infection in my case. Whatever the reason, the results were sudden and complete.

So at Entmoot, if you need me, ring the bell and I'll come. If I don't come, ring the bell and shout! :-)

It was a gorgeous day temperature wise yesterday...then thunderstorms hit in the night and I ended up with a bed-ful of jedis. Now it's hot and muggy.

Liquid aluminum, is that right, Suzi?

Transparent aluminum. "There be WHALES here, Captain"!!
Hee Hee. Also one of MY favorite Start Trek films, the eco-PC notwithstanding!

Yeah! That's the one!! ROFL

I only said that because way in the long ago past when most of ya'll were still in grade school, I had an infant and worked in retail at a more pricey store. So, sometimes I would assist people for quite a while and then be told they would buy the same item cheaper at K-Mart since I'd informed them. I worked on commission. Now, I'm very conscious of doing that to people. I try not to. But, still on the single mom budget - it happens.

MR. BROWN:
Yes?
MAN:
Hello. Uhh, can we have your liver?
MR. BROWN:
My what?
MAN:
Your liver. It's a large, ehh, glandular organ in your abdomen.
ERIC:
[sniff]
MAN:
You know, it's, uh,-- it's reddish-brown. It's sort of, uhh,--
MR. BROWN:
Yeah,-- y-- y-- yeah, I know what it is, but... I'm using it, eh.
ERIC:
Come on, sir.
MR. BROWN:
Hey! Hey! Stop!
ERIC:
Don't muck us about.
MR. BROWN:
Stop! Hey! Hey! Stop it. Hey!
MAN:
Hallo.
MR. BROWN:
Ge-- get off.
MAN:
What's this, then? Mmh.
MR. BROWN:
A liver donor's card.
MAN:
Need we say more?
ERIC:
No!
MR. BROWN:
Listen! I can't give it to you now. It says, 'in the event of death'. Uh. Oh! Ah. Ah. Eh.
MAN:
No one who has ever had their liver taken out by us has survived.

My sentiments exactly on the weather. Yesterday I was hoping that it would be exactly like that for the next 3 weeks while I'm off! And today - yuk!

No jedis in my bed this morning. Do you think there are elf jedis? Could I have one? next time there's a thunderstorm............

Ever notice how you go to WalMart in the summer time and see women old enough to know better and a bit pudgy wearing clothing that is a little too small and skimpy? And you wonder WHAT they are thinking to go out looking like that?

Well, that's me today and I'm trying to keep cool in an un-airconditioned car and without having to come home and turn on the AC. And I don't even have it in my budget right now to pick up my WalMart kiddie pool for the summer. So, I just look like this. And that's the way it is.
