Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Heh.... Do they not "really really like me" anymore? Ha! "They" really really like her still. She doesn't really really like me. She went off on me after church while we were having birthday cake for a lady's birthday about how I scarred her for life because some year or another that I don't even remember she made me an Easter dinner at Grama's house and when I got there I only ate salad. And she slaved................. and now, she's ruined.
So, of course, I *thought* she ought to be slapped into the next county. But, of course, I didn't. I just walked out and left her. She was getting a ride home with a friend. So, I've heard 2 more tirades about this since I got home - what like 20 minutes ago?
ARGH! Feed her to the orcs!

The Commodores were a great group too...

"Blue Album", the "Best of" 2-album set put out in the 70's, containing songs from 1967-70. (The "Red Album", another 2-album set of hits put out at the same time, contained songs from 1963-66.) Hey, I have those. Somewhere. and about 2 dozen 45's starting with She Loves You. Were you born then Bear?

That's my favorite Star Trek movie. Liquid aluminum, is that right, Suzi?

My first home computer was a Sinclair ZX-81 that I bought with my high school graduation money... it came with 2k of RAM on board, but I bought the expansion pack that brought it up to an amazing 16k of RAM!
I wrote a database program in BASIC to keep track of my comic book collection... had it all saved on a cassete tape...

Wow! Maybe it's some kind of phenomena that repeats every 10 years or so, like the sunspot cycle!

*shaking head hopelessly*

That's my favorite Star Trek movie. Liquid aluminum, is that right, Suzi? Transparent Aluminum

starting with She Loves You. Were you born then Bear?Hmm... that very year... She Loves You hit #1 in 1964...

Don't feel too badly. I alluded to this the other night. But at Saturday's game when Jr. struck out, he was po'd. As he came off the field I said "shake it off, Jr."
He looked at me and said "shut up." A hush fell over the crowd as dad stormed the dugout. It was the bottom of the last inning and we were playing with a short roster. Otherwise I would've yanked his butt out of the game.
Then he made the game winning catch and got the game ball...
To his credit, he came to me immediately after the game and apologized. Part of it was driven by the fact that the Dr. prescribed a new medication for ADHD last week. We haven't been taking any. He lost his appetite, couldn't sleep, was irritable. Mom and I both took him off right quickly. But he was still stressed from the week.
Still. It is NEVER appropraite to tell a parent to shut up. Especially in public...

I had a Commodore 64, then a 128, then - I went to an Eagle!

What songs did the Commodores have?
How is your "Book of Virtues" coming along? Dwarvish virtues, I guess?

Hmm... that very year... She Loves You hit #1 in 1964... I think I was very blessed to have a Grama who is a closet Beatles fan. At an age older than I am now it just wasn't right for her to come out as a Beatles fan in podunk Texas.... so she bought ME every Beatles 45 that came out. And I kept them at her house. I bet she listened when nobody was looking.

Yep. Liquid aluminum.
We saw it on our honeymoon **blush**
Can I tell this here? Oh what the hey...
We knew the movie was coming out that week (Thanksgiving 1986). So we had a private little joke about "Boldly going where...(you can finish the quote)"
Of course she told her Maid of Honor and I told my Best Man. Then everyone new. Whilst we were taking pictures the groomsmen started humming the Star Trek theme...

Thanks for sharing that. It made me feel better tonight. You know, she's a good kid. Sometimes I just feel like that if she had a dad around to handle some of that mouthy stuff I'd be a lot calmer. She doesn't do it to other people. But, you know how it is. Sometimes you wonder why you procreated.

I labored with the ZX81 for years, adding improvements to it along the way, until my first job provided me with an actual PC so I could do work at home... A Zeos 80286, running at an amazing 10 megaherz!
It had 1 MEGAbyte of RAM!
