The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Dip!! We gotta make sure we have plenty of dip items and snack foods like that at Entmoot. Lots of stuff to eat. It should be like Bilbo's party...

There were three official meals: lunch, tea, and dinner (or supper). But lunch and tea were marked chiefly by the fact that at those times all the guests were sitting down and eating together. At other times there were merely lots of people eating and drinking - continuously from elevenses until six-thirty, when the fireworks started.

Of course!

I was standing in the kitchen yesterday eating Steve's buttermilk pancakes that he makes...yes, standing, because I didn't want to waste time walking to the table...and I said between shovelled-in mouthfulls "You just have to make these for the Hole Dwellers at Entmoot!"

So food will not be a problem, and neither, I think, will be conversation. The only problem might be actually be getting up and getting to a theater on time!

We've already got my homemade bean dip on the list. Ruthy and I are just going to buy ingredients after we get there and I will make fresh homemade bean dip and salsa too if we want it. This will naturally require an abundance of assorted chips and ice cream to follow.

It's just that since it's with the state, the state can change the rules on you without being accountable - right?

As a person who was booted for the reason that I upheld state law when all the powers-that-be (up to and including the Governor and Attorney General) wanted the law ignored in favor of their personal fiat, I am probably far too biased about such things to give an appropriate response on a "family" chat site.

The new college president just started enforcing that rule this year.

Sounds like the new college president would make good human shield material.

Sounds great. I'll bring the pints.

We went to Famous Dave's BBQ for lunch. First time we've been there. They serve a ton of food. It was a hit with Jr. which is pretty incredible.

Gidget is eating the rest of my bowl now. She likes it!

If you're feeding your dog peppers and onions you'll really have no room to complain about the dwarves.

[Sheesh! I was just rewinding something for Luke and noticed all the new channels are showing the Laci Peterson memorial. But they're showing it as background and giving commentary or doing intervals over it...that's just tacky. Either show it or not.]

I hear ya Scott. I live with that daily (more at Entmoot, hopefully as history).

Remember the job you're looking at where I said "don't use my name?" Basically we ratted out the ED over mismanagement of the books. Turned out it wasn't all her fault, but she took the fall. Gradually at that place everyone with any management responsibility was fired by the board. I was the last to go. Then they hired a new ED and turned things around.

Three months later he asked me to come back, which I did and I stayed for another five years. Until the Board came to me because they suspected things. I said "yes, he's keeping two sets of books." Eventually I was fired a second time. A year after that, they told that ED "you can resign or go to jail."

I interviewed to come back, but really didn't want to, so I priced myself out of their range (at least I tell myself it was that and not that they really didn't want me.)

That's when I came up with my title for my (still to be finished) book One Flew Over the Conservative's Nest.

Can you play it to the sound track of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon?

That was how I won the Mrs. and Jr. over to the whole concept. Well that and telling Jr. we'd spend Sunday at Disney...but I'm guessing you wouldn't make that offer...;-)
