Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

What a great picture!
I just sent off another care package. The postal ladies were thrilled with my packaging, since I have found that I can order all my supplies and have them delivered to my door! I even got packaging tape for "free"...the best packaging tape. That has always been my biggest expense and it's a gamble too...the last tape I got was terrible, kept splitting.
This packaging tape says "Priority" on it, which means I can only use it for the care packages, since they have to be sent priority, but it is truly excellent packaging tape! Very thin, but very sticky and strong! You sure can't tear it, and it sure won't break or split! You have to use scissors to cut it, it's that strong. But amazingly very very thin.
Did I mention it was delivered free...to my door? And the boxes too (now that I'm running low on "flag" boxes), and the customs labels and the custom label sleeve that goes on the outside of the box...and also the Priority stickers and address labels! All delivered "free" to my door!

Well, shoot!!
I got home from work, and went to call up my web hosting control panel to figure out how to set up the email list, only to find out that the hosting company has gone out of business. Grrr. At least the site is still up, but I have no idea for how long. So now I have to scramble and find a new affordable host.

you could make it an educational trip. Do a history lesson on the Civil War You'd probably be coming East on I-40, you could pop down from Memphis and go to Shiloh Battlefield.

Seems to me like you could do I-75 south until you get to Florida, then cut over.I'd avoid I-95 for as long as I could!

Say hi to the horses for me... Heh.... I lunged him for about 20 minutes... Now if I can hold to this schedule I should lunge him every day for a two weeks and then start some light riding. I would be more ambitious, but I am not confident in his strength this year. I think he is kinda stumbly, and not quite right... Nothing I can put my finger on, it may just be that he is finally acting 22 years old. After he fell on me last autumn, I want to make sure he gets some watchful conditioning before he goes back to hard work.

He did have enough spunk in him to be "bad". This is the shot right before his heels went in the air.

Heh.... He was being bad! If he can be bad without falling on his butt, then I say go for it. Bucking is good exercise.

A girl who joins a space colony, coldsleeps out for three hundred years, wakes up to find they've been beaten there, and has to start over in a highly advanced but rather impersonal society by her own abilities. It starts out Horatio Alger-like, with overtones of Keith Laumer, then segues into a 'Horatio Hornblower' in space crossed with Heinlein's
Starman Jones, when she becomes a navigator and works her way up and through the galaxy.
The story is going to be called something like "Ad Astra Per Aspera". However, the girl needs a good name and I'm stuck. I was going to name her Jean, but I got death threats, and right now she's Riannon but I don't like that either. I want a one or two syllable name, preferably starting and ending with consonants, that is normal without being dull. Any suggestions?
