The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

So is the abandoned mother nursing the new ones? - Or is this other person bottle feeding them now?

The Narnia books are great, but they are children's books, aimed at younger folks than The Hobbit, I think. Lewis's Perelandra series is aimed at adults, and has a pseudo science fiction appearance.

Whose poetry are you studying? Clare just got through reading Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself". She was amazed it went on for so long!!

Isn't there some sort of custom that folks would make 'May Day' baskets or nosegays and secretly leave them on their neighbors' doors?

We did that when we were kids! - Would make little hangers with flowers in them that would hang on the doorknob. We would ring the bell and run and hide!

The abandoned mother is nursing the new ones. There are four right now... I told the woman I wanted the one who does everything first... that will be the little female. The last time I used that criteria... I got Scout... She's almost three now...

Hi, just checking in briefly...my job effort is now occupying most all of my time. My huge launch has resulted in a pretty impressive response. People are contacting me every day -- with interest from hot to luke warm to cold. I have an interview on Friday with a big name hot one -- but one that I'm not all that hot about. The next week has another with a small name that is rather intriguing to me. But the big ones are coming a little more slowly, but the interest is keen nevertheless. One in Boise is really hot and its a really great job, just four months or so out.

I've gotten interest from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (phone interview on May 18, and we'll see where it goes from there). The Anaheim Angels called me yesterday (yeah, that's right, the world champs!). They are in the final stages of the team being sold to a new owner, and they may have some positions opening up afterwards -- they're going to get back in touch with me in a couple of months. Today I got an interesting feeler from Salt Lake City which may network into something.

Lots of stuff happening and I haven't even worked the phones yet! So, I'm encouraged. This is my last official day at my old place of work, so tomorrow it's on the phone to unemployment comp office, hoping they don't mess me around.

I think you'd like "The Chronicles of Narnia" at LOT!

When I get a free moment, I might. Next on my reading list is Robert Kaplan's The American Arabists...
