Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Listened to a little. It's OK, but I like Wolfstone better for that style of music. Not sure that they look as good in kilts, though...I have no idea what they look like!
To: 2Jedismom
On Green Linnet? You can listen to the whole thing there.
I wish they'd come our way. My brother and I would be there for sure! I like their lead singer's voice...that makes a big difference in how much I like a band.

Oh my goodness, this is a great album so far!! Do you have it?

I have most of their stuff. That one I have on tape...it's the one that I discovered them through. Dad bought it and didn't like it, so he gave it to me. Bill and I LOVED it and have spent the last year acquiring as much Wolfstone as possible. ;-)

My "to do" list was running through my mind and I said to myself "No, the most important thing I can be doing right now is watching this game." And I know that. And in the future, it will definitely be worth it. You probably like baseball. But, I detest sitting and watching sports. I am a participant not a spectator. My kids have both been in band. I go watch them march at the football games and take a book. Recently, the oldest told me, "you know mom, you don't know how much that meant to me because you went. because I knew you hated every minute of it but you were there."
so, it was all worth that.

I'm glad you like them! When I first heard that tape, I had a "Where have you been all my LIFE??!" kind of moment.

Well, now that they're in middle school they've at least developed enough talent to make it interesting. He's been after me to coach, but that's just not me. The last time I was on a ballfield was in 1979. I know that because I chased a foul ball into a ditch and broke my ankle.
We do try to spend a lot of time with the boys. Last year on his birthday (and we're doing somewhat of a repeat this Friday) we did an all night thing and took them to "cosmic bowling" at midnite. A young (20ish) couple came over and told us how cool they thought we were to be there with them. We've had people say that type of thing at King's Dominion as well, like when we're getting soaked on the water rides.
My dad didn't spend a lot of time with me. I think I've shared this. But when I was younger, his drinking was pretty bad. When he stopped I was a teenager and didn't want to be with him. He died when I was 20.
When Jr. was born, I promised him and myself that it would be different. I know right now he's thinking he wants dad to be a coach. But when he's grown, he'll remember the hours I spent as a scout leader and the places we've gone and more. There are times when I think "I just want to go away all by myself." But I also know that 20 years from now I'll be thinking "Gee, I wish the boys would come over..."
And the cat's in the cradle...

I got the whistle I bought on Ebay for my friend in Iraq. It's horrible. It's not a Feadog, its a Tipperary...never heard of it.
I have the Walton's Mellow D that Rugerman gave me...I think I'll replace it with that one. It has a nice pleasant sound and is easy to play.

I will never forget my Mom at all my horse shows, looking very out of place, embarrassing me with questions about where straps should go or holding my horse for a minute and having her yell, "He's MOVING!" In front of everyone! - You know.... stuff that is dreadfully embarrassing for a teenage girl. But she always thought I was the best, no matter where I placed. And hers was an uneducated, but important opinion.
My Dad is more reserved. He was there, like a watchtower, in the corner or in the back near the exit. In the world of the emotional he did not know how to help. I didn't recognize he cared when I was young, because he didn't know how to give encouragement in words, he just doesn't know how, standing there, but he knows checkbooks and new saddles and new tires and a new truck. My mom said "I love you" in cheers and tears and hugs.... Dad says it with new tires. Your son will remember you being at the game, and the time you said "Don't walk that expensive bat!"
