The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Myranda's still got 45 minutes to get back from her date. I'm sleepy and I haven't taken my shower yet. I think I'm grouchy now. I should have said be home by 11.

I took a benadryl. I'm going to make the coffee for in the morning, then I think I'll turn in.

Good night everyone.

Well, nothing as dramatic as that, and this is a cat story.

My wife's parents adopted a Siamese cat while my wife was away at college. When my wife moved back home the cat became very fond of her, but that's another story. Twice the cat saved the family.

Once they had a rug catch fire that was over a heating vent. The fire was minimal, but the cat woke them up when it started to smoke.

Another time, my f-i-l collapsed in the bathroom with heart problems. The cat woke up my mother-in-law.

Maybe next time your head won't be so easily turned by a young man in uniform...

G'nite all. I should be asleep. We watched the second Harry Potter movie tonite. Or I should say Jr. and the Mrs. watched it.

The dog and I slept through it. Apparently we were considerate enough to stagger our snoring...

What? No-one is up yet? I am surprised. Well, I'm up... I was up late last night, decontaminating my sister's computer. Found Grokster and several dozen music files - that is a no-no - and almost 400 things that AdAware didn't like and so got deleted. Plus I deleted about twelve programs that just weren't necessary.

I'm up. We've had too much dihydrogen monoxide for me to turn the soil today so I might just settle for potting plants.

:-) Maybe next time your head won't be so easily turned by a young man in uniform...

Admittedly, it was turned. Wasn't the uniform for me though.

First, Myranda will be 18 in less than 6 weeks AND is a mature Christian young lady for her age, so midnight is not a problem. The thing that turned my head from the kid was.... He asked me what time I wanted her home first and made sure that I knew very early was okay, but that there was an award's presentation at his banquet and it wouldn't be okay for him to leave before 8:30 or so. I'm thinking ??? huh? I asked what time the banquet was over and he said midnight. Then he said - but there's dancing after the meal, and the presentation and he knew we were Christian and didn't know if that was okay for our denomination. (we dance even in praise) So, that's where the midnight curfew came in.

Actually, Myranda and I also have a deal that she goes out and anytime she might feel uncomfortable - it's time to remember that curfew is now if she'd rather not say it any other way.

She had a great time last night. And the kid she was with failed to mention that he was getting some major award at the ceremony. She was surprised too. But, she says it's really not a potential dating thing probably. He just got hurt (or insulted - maybe that's a better description.)

Well, I'm running the dishwasher because I played out last night after all the cooking and left the dishes while I freeped and ebayed. I rarely use the dishwasher because we don't generate that many dirty dishes. But, it's full now and there's still a dozen or so things beside the sink to be washed later.

All our soil tilling preventative ended day before yesterday. But, I've got the excuse of needed to be at an event this afternoon where I reckon I'll need to wear a dress. course that means i've got to dehair legs within the next hour or so.

Ok, I'm going out now. Taking my grandmother home (!) and then going to hang with friends.

I'm excited. My dear friend who I've known online for three years wants me to come for a weekend in June. She'll be only six hours away, in Ithaca NY, selling their home there. As long as my mom doesn't freak...

I gave up on mine a couple of weeks ago. I'm out of money for the month and the guy who was going to till it for me wanted $40/hour to do it. That was a bit more than I expected. By the time I get paid again May 1 it's not worth it. I also had to come to a roaring stop in my new herb bed in the front yard. Got everthing ready but the dirt and was going to purchase good soil. But, cash flow struck.

Morning. I'm up. Jr. just opened birthday presents and is eating breakfast.

My latest letter to the editor was printed. George Allen is our former Governor and current Senator. He heads up the National Republican Senatorial Committee. His wife, Susan, recently was asked to join the board of directors for Dominion Resources. The local political scum journalist wrote a nasty editorial. I replied:

Slam of Mrs. Allen Insulted Women

Editor, Times-Dispatch: Jeff Schapiro's slam of Susan Allen's "limited resume" was a disgraceful remark about one of the most gracious First Ladies in the history of the Commonwealth ["As True Power Couple, Allens Have Dominion Link"].

His insinuation that her roles as the wife of a former Governor and U.S. Senator garnered her no worthwhile experience is an insult to women everywhere who choose to raise their families and support their husband's careers.

It was a rather brazen remark for someone whose weekly columns are living proof that receipt of a paycheck doesn't always mean one is qualified to do the job.

Corin Stormhands, Richmond

The guy is a real clymer. When we first came in with the Allen Administration he wrote a nasty piece about over staffing in the Governor's cabinet, using my Cabinet Secretary's office (with me in it) as an example. He lifted (literally after hours) a list of staff assignments and wrote about how we had something like sixteen people and listed all of the assignments.

Trouble was, that was a draft of job responsibilities. We had 8 people. Six of the jobs he attributed to six different people were mine.

Good job Corin.

It's great to hear a comment made in print like this:

His insinuation that her roles as the wife of a former Governor and U.S. Senator garnered her no worthwhile experience is an insult to women everywhere who choose to raise their families and support their husband's careers.

Need to beat a guy over the head with Hair's stick for such innuendos.

We had a little run-in yesterday with Myranda's school over some gender issues. It's tricky to handle these things because as soon as a woman mentions a legitimate slight in order to see if the situation can be corrected, it is assumed that the woman is a femi-Nazi and means to drag the ACLU into something.

Which is not the case with us, we'd just like to see a situation handled.
