Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

But I'm not sure I'm willing to say we can't do more to help the handwriting. Neither of our kids is very good at handwriting. With Joseph it is laziness, with Clare, it is the way she holds her pencil. It was never corrected by her teachers when she was in the second to fourth grades in school, so she just developed this incorrect style that makes writing an absolute chore for her.
I'm going to have both of them practice handwriting this summer during our Language Arts work.
There are websites that offer pages to print out that the kids can write over to get used to the movements, etc. I think that with some intense practice, they'll get better. Thank about it, if adults can learn to write, why can't kids re-learn?

My dad's is really bad too.My daddy's penmanship was awful, too. The only 'D' I every got in my life was in the 5th grade in Penmanship. When I showed it to my parents, Daddy laughed so hard. Mama got mad at him for laughing and not taking it seriously! LOL!

Since Howard Shore uses several different choirs, I guess that is to what it is referring. I know he used a Maori choir for the orcs in Moria. The London Oratory Schola boys choir is used all through both soundtracks; I especially love their music from the "Last March of the Ents". And there is a regular choir that did some of the elf music; there are some high voices that are clearly women's voices and not those of the sopranos in the boy choir.

Yep - that is one of his shepherds... They are short coated, he wouldn't have a long-hair, but they are big boned.
ALL - See you later! A friend is here with her pooch, and we are going to Petsmart to buy some new stuff for dogs!

Mostly what I'd like to see returned to the jewelry front are the twist beads that were so fun in the 80s! I loved those!I believe they had some of those in the Fire Mountain catalog. I liked those as well because you could change out the colors depending on what you were wearing that day! I think FM had a red/white/blue set of the twisted beads!

it's probably not PC to think so, but I think Africans have a natural thing for music. It may not be PC, but boy is it the truth! We had a black composer do our Lenten Mission one year in our Parish. It made me laugh to see all these white Yankees clapping on the first and third beats to his music!! Drove me NUTS! He actually had to teach them to clap on the downbeat. It made me wonder if any of those people every listened to rock and roll!!

Well folks...I hope to get a chance to pop in over the weekend!
See you all later!

Remember the Afghanistan 82nd Airborne
I just wrote the chaplain and assured him that we would be praying for him and the soldiers of the 82nd Airborne.
Somebodys Praying Me Through
Pressing over me like a big blue sky
I know someone has me on their heart tonight
Thats why I know its gonna be alright
Cause somebodys praying me through
Somebodys praying me through
It may be my Mother, it might be my Dad
Or an old friend Ive forgot I had
But whoever it is Im so glad that
Somebodys praying me through
Somebodys praying me through
Through the tears, through the rain
Through the sorrow, through the pain
It keeps bringing me through
Over and over again
So when youre drowning in a sea of hurt
And it feels like life couldnt get any worse
Theres a blessing waiting to push back the curse
Cause somebodys praying you through
Somebodys praying you through
Someone got down on their knees and prayed for me
Somebodys, somebodys praying you through

I had a phone call from "one" of "our" guys today. Sort of. My son-in-law. Momentary patriotic brag please: I was kind of freaked out. He's never telephoned me before and they've been married over 6 years. If he answers the phone and I call we exchange pleasantries and he gives the phone to my daugther so we can talk. But alway very courteous and polite.
Today he called and said he wanted to thank me because I said I would go to Germany and be with Jill when it's time for the baby to be born. I thought that was just what a mom does and of course I WANT to be able to do that for them. But, he repeated that it was important to him to thank ME for what I'm doing. Ya'll that's just pretty upstanding. I can't get my words wrapped around how much I think of my S-I-L and it isn't just him. I think he embodies what and who the rest of those guys are who are over there fighting. It just freaks me out that they are the ones fighting and HE called ME to thank me. I realized it was important to him so I received his thanks but then went ahead and told him how much I value him and his work.
He got my letter where I was telling about my friends in the Hobbit Hole sending Jill something and was pretty tripped about that too. It was cool. I think it's probably the longest conversation I've ever had with him. Anyway, writing this, I think of g'nad and Rosie and all the others too who have served along with those who are serving. I'm blown away.

Lionel Richie can't dance, and Mikhail Baryshnikov certainly can! You are so right!

Oh, what a wonderful guy!
Amazing that we have these heros amongst us and though we may not have taken them exactly for granted, we perhaps didn't realize the sacrifice that actually made and are making.
Thanks for cheering me up a bit...

My daddy used to scramble eggs for our mini-doxie every day. Then he'd say that WE were the ones who spoiled her! I never spoil Smeagol. Because I decided not to get attached to another dog again. You can ask Hair. I only cook for her. I don't know why Myranda sometimes gets jealous because Smeagol likes her better than me. Smeagol is Myranda's dog, not mine and she's spoiled her horribly.

You know, I just really hope that my son-in-law never does have reason to think bad about his mother-in-law because he is too upstanding to have a nasty M-I-L.

The only 'D' I every got in my life was in the 5th grade in PenmanshipI got my first penmanship D when I was in the second grade. I don't think my dad realized anything though.

I always got low(er) marks in penmanship but couldn't get anyone to tell me why.

I always got low(er) marks in penmanship but couldn't get anyone to tell me why. Now that you mention it. I don't know why I did either. I COULD READ MY WRITING.
To: Wneighbor
Yeah...I could read it...I even changed it for one grading period and still got low marks. I think the teacher was power tripping
