Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

THIS, I'd say he was doing pretty good in french!
I am going to have the boys learn Arabic. I bet they'll be able to use it when he grows up. I can't stand spanish...can't stand to hear it and can't stand to speak it when I'm forced to.

Hair; even a heavy duty one would be less than 5 bucks. Sounds like a solution in the making, but a fence is preferable to a chain and stake (imho).

I think he can say that, but there's no point in antagonizing the French teacher anymore.

I don't think they do - I was homeschooled, and never had more than Latin and Greek intensive roots. I think you have to arrange it if you want it.
It's all Spanish these days. And what good is that? Learning at least roots improves the vocabulary immensely. Besides, it's fun.

We have a cable run. I wouldn't have a dog if my only choice was a chain and stake. And really, except during the day when we're not here (and even not then when it's too cold or too hot) he's inside with us anyway.

Matthew can start taking latin this next year...has to be in the fourth grade and he should be starting that next month. But I think I'll wait till he's actually 4th grade age...
A friend of mine's husband teaches it...Latina Christiana or something like that.

CS: cable runs, I know quite a few people with them, apparently they are made stout enough for German Shepards and Labs. Our old(er) Golden/Brittany still loves the cold but fades fast in hot weather.

It's all Spanish these days. And what good is that? Because 40-50 years from now, if not sooner, there will be more Hispanics in this country than Anglos.
Not gonna get into the English first argument, 'cause I think it outta be that way. But the reality is there.

Sam is a black Lab (mostly, he's got some Husky in him). We have the run bolted into two oak trees. What broke was the hook on the lead, not the run itself. It holds him pretty well. And I think he's used to it enough not to fight it.

Well, if they want to speak to me they can use English. Or binary. Spanish is not worth my time and effort.

2JM; Latin in the 4th grade? cool. It's a neat language to learn to read, just hard to speak. arabic, now that would be a tough one I think.
