Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

LOL
Anyway....it works for azalea so I reckon it'll do for rhododendron. I think it roots from a node or something. In fact I have two new bushes rooted that I didn't intend. Now where shall I put them?
I've been out building another lumber pile for the guvmint men to pick up. It's mostly the junky looking branches. I'm saving the bigger pieces for firewood.

Hair - so sorry to hear about Zulu; we can't make infallible plans, sometimes other things just happen. We're all here for you.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh poor Zulu!
To: 2Jedismom
They were absolutely delighted! Couldn't believe it when I came in carrying that big platter of cookies (along with the two care packages.)Thanks for the heartwarming news on an otherwise glum day. I hope you told them that this was a way for HH folks to help those that help you help our troops. (A lotta "helps" there.)
To: 300winmag
Well, I sorta said something like that...they have known all along that I was not the one funding all these packages...that I had "contributors". I told them that on behalf of the contributors and myself, we wanted to thank them for their kindness to me.
They were really quite shocked. I love doing stuff like this.
I think we sent about 22 packages, all told.

They were really quite shocked. I love doing stuff like this. And we love reading about it. Thanks again for the ray of sunshine.

Well, damn.

Glad your dad is there. She will rest without pain now. Because I try to see something good in any situation, I think she had one good last happy romp in the yard, and then she went to sleep. Bless her heart, and yours too. Tough day.
To: Sam Cree
Bear found out where the map came from, but I didn't read the theory, though I am assuming it not to be widely accepted. You're right there, Sam. There is no "theory" behind the map; Gordon-Michael Scallion is a self-proclaimed psychic who has had visions of major "Earth changes". Basically, he says his visions foretell of a series of seismic events which will cause some land masses to sink and some to rise, resulting in the map posted on his website. According to him, the process has already started, with a series of major earthquakes in the mid-90s.

Thanks all! - Dad helped me, and took me out for a nice dinner. He was there when she showed up, 17 Thanksgivings ago, and she had a special place in his heart too, because she was truly remarkable in his eyes. I will block out the part that makes me feel guilty, the fighting part of it, in time... I do feel like in the couple hours afterwards, when I was back to making plans to give her a last shot at life, that I made up with her. We had peace, she was relaxed again and she wasn't resentful, then she passed into the fog of drugs, and when it needed to be done she didn't fight any more.
I still wish this wasn't such a screw up. Playing God is dangerous business. I have new respect for the task he has.
What a roller-coaster day. I meant well, and, for his part, so did my poor horse vet. In my horse-vet's defense, when I got her to the clinic, none of her veins would hold up for their skilled hands either, they just collapsed, so they shot the drug directly into her jugular. She was falling apart.
I am wiped out. I may put the horses back in, feed dinner and go to bed. We'll see. It meant everything that you guys were all here for me today. You were here when I didn't want to be alone, and you are precious to me.
Yes, WN, She did have one good last happy romp in the yard, and then she went to sleep, my betrayal forgotten.

Oh, so we're all ok. Good.
On the other hand... looks like PA is ok, so why not move to the Pittsburgh area?

I do like the way those major earthquakes tend to be politically motivated. (except for the Miami folks here)

As I recall, the Gulf Coast moves inward... Austin is still safe, just closer to the coast, which might not be too bad.
By the way, that mass of land off of the East Coast of the U.S. (where Bermuda is today) is supposed to be Atlantis, making its reappearance.

Heh... wonder what would happen if someone suggested that Atlantis wasn't an island, it was the planet between Mars and Jupiter that is now asteroids. Combine the alien-life wackos with the Atlantean groups and you have a really good tinfoilhat going!

Too late! A lot of Atlantis groups already believe that Atlantis was either inhabited by space aliens or had contact with space aliens.

Oh. Well, has anyone written a novel about it yet?
Perhaps I should start from the idea that the Greek myths are all corruptions of real events.

I like to take a platter of somethings like that to the local police station, sheriff's station and EMS station, and especially to the volunteer fire department here in my little town. They are always so appreciative. And I love those guys and gals. Such good people all of them. I like to let them know they are appreciated. Especially on the holidays. I just fill a foil roasting pan with yummies and go.
Good for you!

As I recall, the Gulf Coast moves inward... Austin is still safe, just closer to the coast, which might not be too bad. Austin looked safe on that map to me. When I was in Austin all the New Agers were saying that the Balcones fault would be the line for the next age. IMO, that had a lot to do with the rush out to the area you're living in now. It was a big deal back in the '70s. All of us were stoned anyway and the country's prettier up there so it made for a good excuse to move out there.
To: JenB
I couldn't point my finger at a specific novel off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's been done.
Heck, even Star Trek TOS did it in the episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
Have you ever read "Chariots of the Gods?" by Erich von Daniken? A little dated now, since it was written in the 70's, but it was the start of the "Ancient Astronaut" theory of human history. ;)
