Heck, even Star Trek TOS did it in the episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
Have you ever read "Chariots of the Gods?" by Erich von Daniken? A little dated now, since it was written in the 70's, but it was the start of the "Ancient Astronaut" theory of human history. ;)
