The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Note to self: Make sure the Winnebago has good ventilation at highway speeds.

Add: Make sure luggage rack can manage one or two Dwarves tied to it.

I heard on the news when I went for a haircut that there was a small plane circling Miami aiport with only one wheel that would go down. Hope they landed OK, I suppose they did, scary though.

People land with their gear up by mistake fairly often, don't they, Hair, and get away with it?

I should go buy some bushes too. I want to plant a nice shrub over Logan and Zulu.

Eeeek. I don't think I told you guys. My horse vet is coming Wednesday to look at Bay's member.

He said he would be willing to put Zulu down when he is here (even though he doesn't usually treat dogs). I am pretty positive that is what I will do. Wednesday morning. Kinda hard to look at Zulu now that she has a date, but it was hard to look at her and know that I should be making a date. I don't know how to cope with arbitrary decisions to end her life two days from now. Emergencies are easier than the long slow dwindling.

Good night Corin.

Oh Hair. (((((HUGS))))

Where are our furry kids going all of the sudden? *sigh*

I've got to run home. Be back later.

Of the three options (all down, all up, or one of each) One main up and one down is the worst of the three. They would have probably advise him to retract the other one before landing, if it will. In a low wing plane like I trained in, you can skid in pretty easily gear up. Might look fairly smooth to an observer, 'xcept for the incredible grating sound the pilot hears. The engine will be ruined when the prop jams, but the airframe will hold together. I am going to imagine it was a low-wing plane.... They are most common in retractibles.

OH, Hair, I'm so sorry. I don't know how to make those decisions either. A few years ago my 14 year old border collie was diagnosed with liver cancer on a Friday I decided to wait until Monday to make a decision. On Saturday, we were lying on my bed, she looked up at me very lovingly and then her head fell into my hand. So, I didn't have to make the decision - but it was hard being faced with it and had I been aware of her physical condition sooner I would have had to make that decision. You have had a tough last few months with your critters.

...and thoughts turn to who will be there for me when I am 64?

And by that age my kids will be grown and I'll be free to travel and visit for however long I please!

My father and uncle died at 64.

Zulu was with me through much of the critical points in my life. She went with me to college. She went with me for rides in little planes. She went camping and hunting and boating, lived in the desert and went to the mountains. She was there for all of it. I have a hard time picturing myself there anymore, it has been so long. I am looking desperately for some of the photos from college that have her. There were many, but I am only finding a few.

Here is a fun thing I made that used to be on my desktop at work. I named it "five Zulus" but when you select "tiled" in the desktop settings, it was more like 50 Zulus! LOL!

Doesn't that sound fun!

Today wasn't too bad. I don't know when I get my room back. My brothers got to meet Brian Jacques, who writes the "Redwall" series, today. Apparently he's a very nice man.

So sad, but that is not a bad way to go! I have hoped many times that she would just pass and I wouldn't have to do it.

Jess told me (ater it happened) that she feels "like a failure as a woman".

Bless her heart! (and I mean that in the NON-catty way) As long as you and Autumn are happy, she couldn't possibly be a failure! It is very emotional for her, I know. It's those damn hormones!! They're raging all around and don't have anything to light on, so they make you antsy and emotional!
