Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I went on an ebay binge this afternoon. Got a new book coming which promises to cover propagation of roses. This will get you the rose bushes you'd like. Free.

Are you sure? I don't remember her being Castor and Pollux's sister. Castor and Pollux were twins, right, but I thought their mother was a peasant? One of them was Zeus' son and the other was her husbands.... those Greeks had some trouble with elementary biology...
And I thought Theseus was his own little myth, the minotaur and Medea and such.

Got a new book coming which promises to cover propagation of roses. Are you familiar with a type of climbing rose called "Seven Sisters"? Mama used to have a climbing rose on the chain link fence around our house. It began blooming in Spring and sometimes bloomed all the way into November! (This was in MS) I seem to remember it being a deep pink with seven blossoms on each stem, and it had the most wonderful fragrance!

We're going to start studying the 'Ancients' later this year. I never studied that era much, so it will be interesting to me as well! Parents get educated in homeschool, as well as the kids!

If you have Encarta, take a look... Rose has been reading it all to me.
Zeus, uhm, "visited" Leda in the shape of a swan; in one version of the myth, she gave birth to two eggs. Out of one sprang Helen and Pollux, out of the other one sprang Castor and Clytemnestra. And yes, Helen and Pollux were immortal (Zeus' children) while Castor and Clytemnestra were mortal (Tyndareus' children, Leda's husband.)
Theseus had a long career as a hero! He was also one of the Argonauts, and helped to rescue Persephone from Hades. Looking more closely at the myths though, Theseus wasn't killed for kidnapping Helen; her brothers rescued her but Theseus got away to have other adventures.

Nope, I don't know that one. I'm not as familiar with roses as I used to be. I used to have a small rose garden but I can't even remember what I had back then now. I have been looking into getting some climbers here at the new house though as I have a fence in the back. I am much more interested in the old roses with fragrance that bloom forever than new hybrids that are so picky. I might just have to go looking for this Seven Sisters. There are some good websites out there for old roses too.

Not a bad binge on ebay after all. $12.49 total for 5 new books. of course shipping amounts to almost that much too. But, oh well. I will have 5 new sources of things to obsess over.

Especially the scene with the buttocks that launched a 1000 ships... mmmmmm....buttocks....
Did I say that outloud? Hello! Good Morning!
Gotta run...

Morning!

libarian has been scarce these last few days I was on a short vacation to the hills of PA. I have returned.
To: Overtaxed; Bear_in_RoseBear; HairOfTheDog
Morning! I'm back.
"Lovely" morning at the Stormhands household. Seems it was my fault Jr. misplaced his wallet.
Then, after all we worked on last night, the Mrs., who told me "I have to leave at 7:00 a.m.," waited until 7:10 a.m. to test the recipe. Of course the smaller oven wasn't configured quite the same as the regular oven.
Still, that was my fault too...
Is it too early for pints?
To: Corin Stormhands
Too early...unless you're planning on taking the rest of the day off.
To: Overtaxed
Well, taking the rest of the day off just means I'd have to go home...sigh...
I'll just have more coffee.

Poor Dwarf!

Poor Dwarf??????
Nobody pities a dwarf!
To: Corin Stormhands
Ummm....well...I guess I'm the first, then.

Where is everybody this a.m.?

Morning! I'm here. Overslept. Gotta go to class now. Teach for an hour or so then put 'em to work. Check back in then. Till then dibs on a platter of bacon if we have some.

Good morning everyone!
Corin- no pity here, just support AND it is NEVER too early for pints, Master Dwarf! I've tapped a keg and it has been set on the ground in a tub of ice. As for myself, I'll have mimosas. Anyone else who wants one, let me know.
For the rest of you, I have hot strong coffee, herbal or regular tea and various icy juices as usual.
I do NOT want eggs this morning. I had quite enough yesterday, thank you very much and my tummy is still aching thinking about it. Ugh! However, I have whipped up some scrambled eggs with ham for those who do want some. See what a considerate host I am!? LOL! ;)
I've got waffles (blueberry or buttermilk) ready with either blueberry or maple syrup, fried ham slices, 6 platters of bacon strips and sausage links, as well as, OT's hash browns and some lovely sauteed mushrooms to go with some breakfast cheese and garlic rolls (extra buttery).
As far as my chest pain goes, it is GONE! Praise God! I've got to see the doctor this week and then I'll know more. Needless to say, it's more than likely stress related and so I have made it a point to control my temper and take it easier than usual. I want to thank all of you who care so much for me. I've said it before, but it cannot be said enough - I cannot thank the Lord enough for bringing me here to the finest group of folks in the world. I don't know what I would do without you. I really don't.
