The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I hope you got plenty of them for the day. At any rate, this is a good day to indulge yourself and ignor all granny's.
oops, i'm a granny.
To: Wneighbor
You're a nice granny, not a joy-sucking happiness leech.
I don't exaggerate. We have a long drive to church, almost an hour, and I love to listen to Jars of Clay, Third Day, or other bands. Since I had her today, I put on a very easy and gentle Caedmon's Call cd, all worship songs. She sat there, glaring, arms crossed, the whole way to church.
This is a woman who forces us to watch really boring movies, listen to bad music... and insists "The West Wing" is a good tv show.

OH my GOSH!!! That West Wing thing really rips it. I like your music. Myranda listens to all those. I like Phil Driscoll, Mylon LeFevre a lot of DC Talk myself. However, I like all that she listens to also. She says mine is "old people music." I don't have any idea what my grandkids will like when they get old enough to be choosing. However, they don't care much for my movies as all but the oldest are still into Disney. The oldest however, got FOTR video and THE books for her birthday. She actually asked for them!!! Yea!!! If she were close enough I would have read them to her 2 or 3 years ago but, now, she has 'em.
To: Wneighbor
See, you're a much better granny.
Ugh, she's back.

You know Jen, when my Grandmother was alive, her very favorite show was
Lawrence Welk (and full volume so she could hear it)... I wouldn't have dreamed of having her miss that! And when I was over visiting, she always wanted to watch Murder she wrote. She liked the actress in it, but said it was too scary for her to watch alone.
I loved her to pieces. I can understand not liking her grouchiness, but wanting you to share in movies she likes isn't grouchiness, it sounds like you are being grouchy for not wanting to!

You're absolutely right, I'm grouchy and kinda PMS-y, only without the excuse. But she is very hard to take in large doses. Especially when I am very low on sleep.

I am pretty convinced that learning to drive on narrow country roads is an advantage, all those hills and curves, and of course, teenagers like to take them at a pretty good clip which increases the learning curve if they survive. But it lets you have a better idea of a vehicle's capabilities.
But I have never thought to be a racer.
Not sure what year the jeep was, but remember hearing stories about exploits in it from before I was born, which was '48. Can't believe we are in another century, I wasn't finished with the last one.

You know, I wouldn't even mind getting to find some of those weapons or ammunition stores. A girl can never have too many weapons or too much ammo. The only thing that would interest me would be those gold-plated AK47s. I like stuff that goes "bang", but not things that goes "BOOM". They're finding a lot of that stuff all over.
Iraq has more weapons and ammo than people willing to pull the trigger. They had so much weaponry (and loot) that they couldn't take it all with them, even if they made it out of the country. So they just hid it all over the place.
I'd say that all the American cash would be a good source of temporary funds to pay police, fire, and hospitals until they get a new government. It's just stolen loot anyway, and I don't think the previous "owners" are in any shape to come back and claim it.

Your work is beautifulThank you very much. If you have any you are willing to share, I would love to see it.
Where is that bottom image from?
It the Maroon Bells, just outside of Aspen, at sunrise.

Can't believe we are in another century, I wasn't finished with the last one. I can't echo that sentiment enough!!!!!

*laughing* My grandfather loved Lawrence Welk!!! UGH!!! Grama likes Buck Owens and Porter Wagoner. When I was a kid I hated having to spend Saturday nights listening to country music the entire evening. Then, lo and behold, as I got into my tweens I found myself on an investigative mission to find all the best old-fashioned honky tonks in Texas. And that mission lasted about 15 great years. All thanks to being forced to listen every Saturday night as a kid.
Boy, would Jen hate that one!

I think it's probably good we are here now. Hopefully you're just taking out your frustrations in the hole and not in person. If so, then we've been useful for the weekend. :-)
To: JenB
things from the sixtiesagain, i resemble that.
well, i was born before then but that's when i first have memories.
To: 300winmag
Yep. You're on target with the use for the moola. Previous owners should be paying for those services anyhow.

My weakness - candy-shelled malted milk "easter eggs". Wow!Oh I dearly love those. That's why I made myself a dark chocolate-malted milk crunch bunny! ;o)
Love those 'bird egg' looking ones, though!
