The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Wn: wow, that is an impressive stable of H-Ds. 200 K is quite an accomplishment on any bike. Still get the bug occasionally, but thankfully my eye goes to the older ones, say a BMW R-60 or a R-69 US and those don't come around very often. A nice Knucklehead would be a fun ride. RTL/LTR

Happy Easter. I feel like - no, never mind, it's a joyous happy day. Er.... I am going to take a day off from my diet and eat lots of real chocolate. And some of the cinnamon rolls I didn't have at breakfast.

Good Afternoon, Happy Easter to all, beautiful day here, fresh clean air after the rain, wonderful morning. Not even a few clouds can slow us down.

Samantha has been helping out, she's in the kitchen guarding the oven, the ham is baking and we know she will guard the oven against all intruders. A good dog is good thing to have. :-)

Are ya ready? I've got the charcoal lit, the chips soaking, and homemade rolls a-baking in the oven.

I'm ready and waiting. I'm sitting here chilling after church. I had lembas (cornbread) for breakfast before church and it's been holding me over till lunch got here.

Your work is beautiful, IMO, Ecurbh.

I just this year became aware of the Hudson River School, I too am now an admirer of them. For that matter, the Hudson River Valley itself remains perfectly beautiful, almost all the way into Manhatten, surprisingly. I've been riding the train visiting my daughter, and it follows the Hudson from Manhatten all the way to Albany, then the Erie Canal after that, beautiful country.

Where is that bottom image from? It has a wonderful feeling of great depth and peace, even.

Sounds great!

Chocolate makes many things better. My mood was no exception. The brothers are hiding Easter Eggs and my grandmother is currently not here. Life.... is good.

That's funny, my brothers and I also learned in an old Willys jeep that Dad had, one from the 40's, I believe. Not quite as young as you, though. We spent lots and lots of time driving gravel roads, too. My kids learned the same way, except we didn't have the jeep anymore. So they acsquired manual transmission skills later.

I take pride, pretty much, in my driving, but have never raced anything, so probably I take a back seat to you in actual skill.

All I want is a handfull of whatever cash I find.

You would have made out like a bandit the other day when those solders found those hundreds of millions in US Dollars in neat $100,000 stacks in metal trunks in an outbuilding at one of the palaces! The Colonel said that the containers were EXACTLY like the kind they'd seen at the bank on the day before.

Makes you want to go Hmmm. Sadaam and his folks had been helping themselves to the money at the banks as well as the treasures at the Museum. We just got there too quickly for them to move it to a place of THEIR choosing.

Would any landlords allow you to install a ceiling fan? Sometimes just having the air moving around makes a world of difference, especially in humid climates. That's why you always see those paddle fans on porches and in houses in the South.

I hope everyone is having a good Easter! I'm at my brother's and we're waiting for the turkey to get done and I'm HUNGRY lol

A HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Andy! You may be liberal, but good job on LOTR anyway.

A good dog is a good thing indeed! Mine is guarding the couch. She has managed to keep me off it all morning!

I broke out the weed-whacker after a long winter and went to work on the fencelines. I think this year I would like to start replacing the electric wire with a tall mesh fence that I won't have to keep the grass off of, at least two sides of the pasture, where the tall canary grass grows.

Happy Easter. I feel like - no, never mind, it's a joyous happy day.

There you go, Jen. A change in attitude is a good thing on such a joyous day!

I spent most of yesterday afternoon making candy bunnies, eggs, chicks, etc for our Easter baskets. I'm glad I made it myself this year. It is SO good. Everyone else wanted chocolate Krispy bunnies. I made mine with Malted Milk Crunch. YUMMM!

Sang both Masses this morning and was exhausted when we finished. We did OK at the first Mass, but really hit our stride on the second one! Came home and did a ham slice with pineapple and brown sugar. Going to make some 'shortcake' in a few minutes for Strawberry shortcake for dessert!

Happy Easter everyone!

Oh My! That's one of the many old vehicles that I would love to own. I know where 3 sit rusting now. None run but nobody wants to sell.

I doubt either of us is any better or worse in driving skills. Experience and conciensiousness are the key but especially after miles and miles on a bike I realize that the best of drivers or riders can be in the worst accidents. I think God watching over us is the key. He isn't particular. He likes looking after all of us.

My oldest daughter OTOH, is safe despite her careless driving because of that. And I can even chuckle as I type it. Her driving improved exponetially when she became a mom! Imagine that!

Easter's a good time. It would be better if my grandmother was ever going to grow up, get a life, and leave. But the sun is shining, and the chocolate was good, and service was wonderful.

Afternoon! Just hanging out with the cat today.

was in a hurry reading that. Thought it said "hanging the cat." Only when I saw that you wrote it did I re-read. "hanging OUT WITH the cat."

You know, I wouldn't even mind getting to find some of those weapons or ammunition stores. A girl can never have too many weapons or too much ammo.

My dream bike is a knucklehead. Don't know that I'll ever get that one. I'm not a mechanic and one would require more than my limited routine maintenance of oil/filter/various fluid changes and bolt tightenings. Still, everytime I see one I think maybe it ought to be in my garage. MMMmmm.
