Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Believe me, we are!
Also worried a bit because the Hill Country northwest of Austin (where we were looking today) gets a lot more heavy thunderstorm and tornado activity than Austin proper.
Joys of home ownership I suppose...

Have you thought of going south of the river?Well, no. Rose works at Dell in Round Rock, and the idea of having to drive through Austin every day to and from work doesn't thrill us. Commute would be a nightmare.
And, for some reason, I've always felt more comfortable in the north and northwest portions of Austin, I don't know why.

Hey, OT, fix me one whilst you're at it, would you?

Ahh. I forgot Rose worked over there. I just lived south for the last 2 or 3 years I was there and liked it a lot. But, you are correct, it is way too far to drive for Rose. When I first moved south I worked at IBM. Quickly found employment nearer to home.

You could do art if you wanted to, it just takes practice, like anything else (I think).
OTOH, I'm not too sure I could do computer science.

Good grief. Allow me a venting update here. I have been unable to vent because as I sat at my computer, the old goat sat there listening to NPR on my bed, staring over my shoulder and crying over whatever she was listening to. This is after the day I spend almost exclusively doing things for her. I gave her advice on Easter hats, for heaven's sake!
Now it is time for us to bow down to the silver idol and watch her movies - hideous films only she likes. We can't possibly leave the tv off, or watch something we want... I am using the excuse of homework to get out of the first one. But she's planning to turn on another at 10 - which means I won't get to go to sleep, since it will be playing still. So I have to watch that film.
Today sucked. Tomorrow... who knows. Maybe the Easter Bunny will kill me in my sleep.

Not to contradict you, Sam, but I am unable to draw a straight line. Or a crooked line, often. My art is entirely devoted to coding or writing, no watercolors for me.
There are a few people who really are unable to draw or paint. I am one of them. Trying to do it just frustrates and angers me.

I'd have to make a trip to the store, but it's do-able. I can pick up a battery for the camera. :)
To: JenB
I'm so sorry you're having this tough time.
.......... but, what do you think I should do about my Easter hat? Do you think flowers on the back are too much?
PS. Doesn't some kind of chat/view come into your homework assignments somehow? You know, something that you MUST be required to watch for a class... and talk with while you watch it? I don't know, something like FOTR?
To: Wneighbor
It comes into my free time schedule in another three-ish weeks!

I thought maybe that was your good excuse to keep Granny from messing up your evening. If you have to watch something for homework then she can't have the TV for her silver screen to irritate you.
To: SuziQ

Botticelli is not the one who liked "zoftig?" Everyone likes this painting from 1485, I'm sure. Venus on the Halfshell.
I will go now and look for a Rubens, who did some plump folk.

Oh... no, but thank you! When I chat/view I use the dvd player on my computer, have a little window up for the movie and another for the chat. It's fun!

Now, that's an idea! And I just re-arranged my whole den so I could see the TV and the computer monitor and type at the same time. What a waste.
Oh well, Myranda likes the den better now. I haven't decided yet if I do or not. Still too much stuff out in the middle of the room that I haven't found a place for yet. I need to have everything put someplace. Then, I'll probably like it.
To: Wneighbor
I am too lazy to rearrange anything except my computer windows!

Botticelli is not the one who liked "zoftig?"I meant the Botticelli DID like zoftig! Those classical artists seemed to like to paint women with a little more meat on their bones than is fashionable today.
To: Sam Cree
Venus looks pregnant!
