The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

G'nite all. I either need to go do dishes, finish cleaning up the old computer files 'cause we're giving it to my wife's neice (who is a tramp, but that's another story)...or go to bed.

I think I know what it's going to be...

Heh... I actually like his point here. I also am unamused by all the "I will never vote for Bush if he..." crybabies... It is attention getting behavior of the wrong kind. Lobby the issue to congress... they have to pass a bill to have this even come before Bush. Better if they don't sound like a three year old having a tantrum!

This country was founded by people throwing a tantrum over government restrictions. What do you think the Boston Tea Party was?

You are right! - the Boston tea party was a good tantrum. It is not that revolt is always bad, I just think those who are screeching that they have already decided not to vote for Bush sound like children myself.

I don't trust the motive here on this one. This issue has been cast the last few days as a "Bush" issue that is a deal-breaker. We all must reject him because he supposedly voiced support for the existing AW ban, and if we don't reject him, we are bad Americans.

No. Not me.

First of all, this issue is not before Bush. If Congress does not submit and pass a continuation, the AW ban dies. Lobbying congress to "DO NOTHING" is a no brainer. We have a majority. We also have an axe to grind over Estrada. Let some Dem from California sponsor a bill. Watch us let it die.

If Bush ends up with a bill before him, it is because over 500 people in Congress, most of them Republicans, allowed it. So then what should Bush do? Reject them and stand with the fringe groups that would drop him in a heartbeat?

The AW ban is not a deal-breaker for me. It just isn't. If it went away I would be pleased, of course! - I would lobby and write Congress to let it die. But I will not join a revolt on principle that will only serve to get a Democrat elected and get another Bush a one-term presidency. No, I have more loyalty to this president than that. This president, has had hard cards dealt to him, cards that I am thankful were not played by Gore. I believe leads us in a better direction than any winner of this revolt would bring us. Nope. Not over assault weapons.

I agree about the manufactured homes, though I've had some trouble convincing Rose

They've done amazing things with the process in the last few years, and manufactured homes are not just 'trailers' anymore!

That is a cool plant! I wonder if Wneighbor would like to grow some in her yard...?

Matter of fact, I've been home about 1/2 hour. One of the first conversations Myranda and I had was about that tree. You see, we have this neighbor that we think is a problem. Busybody. We can't go in our back yard without him standing and staring at us over the fence. Doesn't talk, just stares. Occasionally asks what we are doing. He's creepy. The tree that just fell in the backyard Tuesday night - it's right about the place where his head frequently pops up. What do ya'll think. Myranda and I think we may have identified the appropriate replacement tree.

I'm not going to argue, for two reasons:

1) I think it would be pointless;

2) if I said what I would like to say, it would get me kicked off the board.

Since I'm tired anyway, I'll just say good night.

Good night!

Sounds like a plan! Maybe you can get Sam to send you a cutting?

I'm off to bed, good night!

Really? - Kicked off the board? - Not only are people saying pretty much whatever they want on those threads without getting kicked off the board (so far), I am stunned that you feel that strongly about it, now of all times. There isn't anything even in motion on the issue!

I don't mean to be that controversial here either... if anyone wants to talk about this, ping me to one of the threads about it and "have at me". :~D But I won't bring it here any more.

Sorry I brought up that item. I only did it because we got a mention, even if it seemed a bit back-handed.

I am not sorry unless everyone here is mad at me for what I said! - I didn't think it was that much of a hot button except for a few folk!

Yes, it's very good news! Steve came home and tore out a big piece of the wall under the cabinet and accessed the actual pipe (the leak locater used a fiber-optic camera through a hole). We actually saw with our own two eyes where the water is coming from. And it is coming from our slab, too, but it's just draining from this leak, through a hairline crack in the concrete and out to the outside.

This picture is taken with me sitting under my sink, the sink would be just above my left shoulder

It's coming from the red line, the hot water, which is running from our kitchen, into the back of the tub. Right at the white elbow joint. See how the elbow joint is sitting on that board? That's why we couldn't hear it dripping. Only by holding it up slightly could you see it.

Amazing how such a little drip could cause so much havoc.

Wow.... Cool demolition work! - So now that the pipe is accessible, who does the carpentry to fix the floor?

That's just the bottom of the cabinet. We can just nail another board under there with no problem.

Here...I'll take another picture to show you...

See, it's way up in the back corner of my cabinets, you can barely see the elbow joint, I'm shining the flashlight on it. We plan on making a nice access hole in the sheetrock, back there, to access the back of the tub, in case we want to put in a juccuzi some day or something. RIGHT!! LOL

No, Praise God! The only thing we had to take out was a shelf that was right there...and it was just nailed into place and will be easy to nail right back. The only demolition was to that sheetrock and to that bottom of the cabinet. Oh, and the outside of our house where Steve pulled about a 6 foot section of the siding and the insulation off. He did that they day we discovered all of this because it was just mush. Still, I nearly fainted when he did it, it upset me so bad.

I'm exhausted. Steve is off tomorrow, so he's going to be home when the plumber comes...I'm so glad.

I'm making my famous yeast risen waffles.

Good night!
