The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Yeah, it's boring...and I'm not good at it, as I've said. Some people can wear ANYTHING and look super feminine...and always manage to have their hair just so and their nails nice...I've always been something of a tomboy, and it seems like I'm never gonna grow out of it.

I DO wear dresses and all that for church and other occasions that warrant it, but I'm not exactly the glamourous type!

Me either... but I'm feeling less like an ugly duckling these days. I like my hair now and I don't feel like a beached whale anymore.

Anyway I'm going to go off and read for a bit before bed. See you tomorrow!

Oh, now I see why everyone is talking!!

Gee, I thought I'd started something, with everyone being so gabby, and now I see it was just for the precious.

Oh well...has anyone heard anything about the care packages getting through to Iraq? I heard they were starting to get theirs...

Unreal Tournament 2003...

It is *LOTS* different than the old UT Ramius! Prepare to start over on the learning curve!

Really? One report that I read said that it wasn't really all that different. I'll do the install when I get home.

or mandolin strings...life is good!

How are things going with your new mandolin? Are you playing a lot more since you got the new one?

Fiona's yard sounds neat. She must have been so cute running around in it. Mini doxies are just darlin!

It has a different feel, movement is different, weapons have the same names but they act differently! I mean... the basics are the same, but I felt like I was reacting in slow motion.

I also think perhaps I need to boost *something* in my machine.... the game the levels took a long time to load. Video seems good. Any ideas? - Does my machine need a boost for these new games you think?

I needed to share it.

God Bless ya, Ruthy. Our pets really DO become members of our families, don't they?

Once the levels were loaded, I don't think there was lag, I could fire and hit, so it played well, but my character didn't seem as zippy as the old UT.... what I don't know is if that is the new feel and movement, or a symptom of a computer needing a boost. Let me know how it feels after you have installed it.

How much RAM does your system have? Also, check and see if you can download an optimized video driver for this game. A lot of manufacturers have specialized drivers for popular games.

If you're really hooked, you might think about getting a really high-end video card with lots of game support.

Well, I have a

NVidia GeForce2 video card (brand new install)
Pentium III - 598 MHz
128 MB Ram.

I am right at the the minimum RAM and a little behind the 733 MHz minimum required for the game... But the recommended is:

NVidia GeForce2 video card...
Pentium III - 1 GHz
256 MB Ram.

You're WAAAY low on RAM. I consider 256MB to be a bare minimum for Win9x operation in general. RAM is cheap, and that's the first performance bottleneck that needs to be eliminated. Then we look to see if there are other areas that could use tweaking. But low RAM is a big stumbling block.

I'll be glad to find out what's wrong, but I'm sure it's going to set us back...just when we were getting out of debt.

Ain't home-ownership grand?

Thanks again for doing all the packages and such. Sounds like the Renegade Chaplain is pretty happy about it. Maybe we can continue to send a box of something every month or so. Just to let them know we haven't forgotten them!

For shoes... $12 shoes... Maybe $8 on sale shoes...

Arrgh! I wish I could wear inexpensive shoes!! I have 'double-wide' feet, and it is hard to find shoes that fit comfortably. I've about decided that I will only buy Birkenstocks from now on, so I won't be buying a whole lot of them; they're expensive! But they are the only shoes I can wear where my feet don't hurt after wearing them for a while! I found a website that sells them for about 25% cheaper than here in the states. I'm not sure where it is, but the prices are listed in Euros and US dollars.

Huh! - Well, I haven't felt limited by my machine yet, but I might be hitting that point! - Two years ago it was more than enough, but that doesn't last very long in this day and age!

So Ramius... if I buy more RAM will you put it in for me? :~D

Nothing wrong with that! Clare owns exactly one dress and she has YET to wear it!! I almost never wear a dress; it's too cold usually, for one thing, and for another, I HATE pantyhose!!
