Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Adventures of Flat Frodo, Chapter 1: Olympia Washington, April 12.
'We must be going at once, Im afraid. Even now it will be dark before we can reach the Ferry.
'Ill drive you all to the Ferry' said HairofTheDog. 'That will save you a good step, and it might also save you trouble of another sort.

'Who lives in this land?' Frodo asked. 'And who built these towers? Is this troll-country?'
'No!' said HairOfTheDog. 'Trolls do not build
This is Olympia. Men dwell here...'
...'Olympia has long endured; and for a while its splendour grew. High towers that people built, and strong places...'

As they went, they ran into some friends, "Scott from the Left Coast" and his wife.
'This is indeed a strange chance! As there is a rally today to support our troops who are at war, join us!'

Long the rally went, but at length a silence fell, and he heard the music of a waterfall running sweetly in the shadows. Almost Frodo fancied that he could hear a voice singing, mingled with the sound of the water.

'Look over there!' Said HairOfTheDog 'The best beer in South Puget Sound, or used to be: it is a long time since I tasted it.

That settles it! said Frodo. Rallies make delays, but breweries make longer ones. At all costs we must keep you away from the Tumwater Brewery.
And he stood guard on the bridge to make sure we did not go that way.

Very well then Frodo... I shall drop you back at the landing.

There they found the havens of many ships. Would they go this way? Frodo wondered?

'Watch your step' said HairOfTheDog.

To be continued....

Great opening chapter, Hair.
For all you folks participating in the Flat Frodo project, remember to have a convincing, non-smartass explanation when/if stopped by a cop.
Maybe a pre-printed explanation could be made to use as a handout.

You were putting poor flat Frodo at risk on that bridge over the falls...there be wind there and Frodo could've become a kite!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
A little bit of risk! - It was windier at the waterfront! He fell over a lot, but he didn't go in the drink.

I didn't want to tell you this...but I will anyway...that pole you leaned Frodo up next to on the waterfront...Chance pees on it all the time.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
HA! - Gidget did sniff him pretty thoroughly when we got home. She could tell he had been places!

WOW. Found alive!
WOO HOO!
And reasonably good health?! - Was just scanning the news to see if that was true! - I had given up hope that they were alive still when they weren't found when Baghdad went down.
