Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Did you find any place in the movie where Gwyneth Paltrow's facial expression broke? No, and I've seen it perhaps close to a dozen times (I own the DVD).

Been a busy few days trying to buy/build a house. Looks like we've found a nice chunk of land and the pieces are falling into place. AARGH! I'm SO jealous! We were looking for some land on which to build, but it is SO expensive up here in MA! To get a decent (at least 2 acres) piece of land it would either cost $250,000 ( for JUST the undeveloped property) within 10 minutes drive of SSQ's work or half of that half an hour away!
I guess the Lord is protecting us from getting ourselves too far in debt, though, since SSQ's work situation is kinda squirrelly right now. It is probably best for us to stay where we are until things settle down. We've even put the remodeling plans we'd made on hold until late next year to see what's going to happen.
Best of luck with your new digs. It will be a lot of work, but should be lots of fun. If you decide to build, make sure you have all your decisions (appliances, floorcoverings, cabinets and pulls, light fixtures, etc) made before the ground is broken so nothing is delayed!

I was lucky enough to sit behind a group of talkers. I politely asked them to stop. The next time it happened I placed my knee in the back the loudest one's seat and gently pushed. They got the idea. :-)

Otters have extremely dense fur -- which makes very nice winter coats!
Since Russian economy has collapsed, so has the market for skins. However, otter is still in demand.

There isn't a lot out there to see right now on DVD, I need ideas. Henry V
The Count of Monte Cristo
Braveheart
Conan the Barbarian
The 13th Warrior (a poor imitation of Beowulf - but not a bad movie)

Just got back from my freebie viewing. (The popcorn and drink costs more than the ticket!) Did anyone else notice Merry's Traveling Gash? When the orcs put them down, it's over his right eye. When the orc is chasing them through Fanghorn it's over the left and then back over the right when Treebeard is carrying them in his hands.

Did anyone else notice Merry's Traveling Gash?LOL! We'll have to look out for this and the other things that have been mentioned when we go see it again this week!

Hehehe.....I still don't know which Wild Man PJ is although I did see him throw the rock.
To: SuziQ
The Philly-Washington corridor sounds similar. We need to be near APG, but the property there is soooooo expensive. The largest "lots" near the post are in the 0.2-0.25 acre range. Being a western girl at heart I have to have some rooooom! We looked in the next county up (derisively known in my current, snobby county as NASCAR county) and were able to find just over an acre for many tens of thousands less. There will be enough room for a dog and a real garden and only adds 10 minutes to our commute. I'm still pinching myself!
Got back earlier from viewing #3 and loved it even more. I decided to focus on each of the characters' journey of courage. I liked Faramir better and the Ents less. I found myself sobbing once again at Gandalf's charge. Salvation charging into a valley of death in the hour of mankind's most desperate need (thus far in the story) was just too much. *fans weepy eyes* I don't care if it wasn't in the book. JRR would have loved it.

Missed the gash but noticed that Legolas' quiver-thingy buckle can't quite decide if it is worn on the left or the right. Tho I'm probably just imagining it. Also, I could have sworn I saw PJ's kiddies with the women and children in the caves. Can anyone confirm?
To: Lil'freeper
I saw PJ's kids there too! I regcognized the boy right away, but the little girl I hadn't figured out until I realized she might be wearing a blonde wig.
I'm positive about their son, not quite as sure about the daughter though....
To: Penny1; Lil'freeper
It was his kids....their names are in the credits.
To: Lil'freeper
LF: You're correct about Legola's quiver harness, sometimes right shoulder, sometimes left; it was usually close to vertical, which imho makes for a much smoother draw from the quiver.
I think I notices a bit of sword switching on Aragorn's part as well. Usually on the left hip but I thought it was on the right a couple times, in Rivendell(?) may have been one.
I also think he had a different knife in the FOTR last scene he was in. But mere trifles in the overall scope of the movie.
To: osagebowman
I believe the knife he used to impale the Uruki's leg was a gift that had been recently given to him. Might be on the extended edition I saw that, in Lothlorien.

A visitor to a Quaker meeting stands up after five minutes of silence and asks, "When does the service begin?" An old Friend rises after a brief reflection and says, "Service begins when the worship ends."
Great one! I love it.
To: My back yard
MBY: fair enough, haven't seen the extended version yet, my "excuse" is the local video store has 1 (one) copy of extended in VHS and 1 (one) copy in DVD. (bet that "excuse" won't fly with HOD) :-)
To: osagebowman
(bet that "excuse" won't fly with HOD) :-) Ha! - It doesn't fly with me at all! Boy the Hobbit Hole sure has low standards for membership! - letting people in who haven't even seen the Extended Edition. The teenagers behind me in the theater today had more sense!
Back from my Number 4 view, shared with Dad and Brother. Dad liked it! Think he was able to follow it all, with a couple of clarifications in the parking lot afterwards. Faramir gets better every time. My prediction is the most important Extended DVD minutes will be in Faramir's part.
To: osagebowman
Quite the astute observation though. I have seen the EX. ED. only once, and I own it. Seems like I usually put on the original, as I don't have to change disks with that one. Just love doing housework on weekends with it going on in the background. Wish I had the music CD's.
To: osagebowman
You do know I am kidding?.... You really class up the Hole normally, fletching arrows in the corner and talking 'bout bows creaking. ...Which is why this "I haven't seen the Extended DVD yet" business is such a surprise!
I heard them creaking today, by the way. I heard the bows creak and thought of you.
To: HairOfTheDog; osagebowman
Yeah, Bowman, she thinks you're fine. It's
me she thinks is bizarre.
(I haven't seen it either...but that ends in a day or so).
(Still waiting for my package from Amazon...)
