The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hey ya'll. I've been out all afternoon after I said I'd be back because I have some great news! But, it's attached to some difficult circumstances so I'll have to mention them too (especially for prayer purposes).

News is: I'm going to be a Granny again! This will be #4! YEAH!

Difficulty is: My son-in-law was stationed in Germany so my daugher & 2 grandkids are there. He is deployed to Iraq and the girls are there without him. Daughter is pretty weepy at this point with being pregnant and him gone. She will be having the baby in Germany, far from home, without anyone there most likely. Of course it's tougher with all these raging pregnant woman hormones too.

Additional strain on her right now is that she's keeping 2 extra children for one of the lady soldiers in my son-in-law's platoon. The lady's husband decided that now was the time to walk out on family and divorce wife. She's deployed and had no place for kiddos so my daughter is keeping them till the grandmother can get there to transport the kids back here. Not sure but what maybe those extra kids aren't helping her keep her mind off some of the other issues right now though so it could be good.

Thanks, I know ya'll are going to be happy with me and pray! (((HUGS))) I'm beaming.

You, your daughter, and your family have my prayers.

How about a little Hobbit Hole care package for her and the kids? I think we're big enough to take on another good deed.

wow. that's a scary place. it's a good thing there's an elf there with you.

Thanks for the congrats! I'm smiling and I have to keep my mouth shut to family! She even asked me not to tell my daughter here --- loose lips you know.

I am glad you are so sure Corin... really. I also know that you are arguing over there with people of stronger conviction in God than myself, and something went wrong somewhere, because it is angry and mean. When that is happening, I think you would agree, God would want for a better tactic to be found.

I don't want us to have to agree on this, because I am not sure we will.. I mostly spoke up because I don't want to lose you and Kevin as friends, and I have seen a few posts that are no worse than offenses I have seen people banned over. JimRob doesn't have a dog in this fight that I can see. He simply has a bunch of people forcing him to take a stand, and I have to admit it is murky and I am starting out wanting to side with you. In America 'no personal attacks' means not trashing an established religion as a cult, and it means also not just using mocking codewords and jokes to say the same thing. I don't know if it is deserved from prior conduct or not... All I know is how it looks when I try to investigate what the hubbub is all about, and the Mormons are gone or passive and you guys (and many others) are carrying on. If you are the majority, I am not sure why it is so important that you win. Seems like you already have.

Just think about it if you can, and know that if you get yourself banned, you would be missed here and we would have lost something too. I simply don't get what is important enough about winning an argument with people you don't appear to like to risk losing contact with your friends here.

I suppose he comes in handy when there are nasties about but I would prefer something to take the top of the mountain off. Can't see the sky from Moria.

Congratulations! - Even though it will make you nuts to have her so far from home! - Can't imagine being either of you! Another friend has a grandkid due any day and her daughter is in Isreal... Always in danger. At least she has you a phone call away. Prepare for high phone bills.

Additional strain on her right now is that she's keeping 2 extra children for one of the lady soldiers in my son-in-law's platoon. The lady's husband decided that now was the time to walk out on family and divorce wife.

Good grief! But you are right! - Having to save another situation that is nuts might help her not become nuts herself with worry and hormones!

Your daughter, her husband, and your family is in my prayers. I was not aware you had direct family serving right now. Glad I know. Extra prayers.

Awwww. That's so sweet. She was quick to assure me today that they have all they need because I was offering to send too. So, probably the best thing she needs is good wishes.

She heads up the FRG group for the battalion and they are also sending care packages to the troops. Pretty much the same things we are sending to Afghanistan. Except, they are sending mountains of cookies! She is baking double batches of cookies daily! :-) I'm a proud mom too.

*Yawn*

So I'm back from choir. I want to go to bed but I'm waiting for something first. Ugh. We ran late - Easter is coming and we're not ready.

Need to go to bed myself, but we're in Lothlorien now. No nice hobbit-type feather beds.

Thanks Hair! I am so excited! I'm sure ya'll will have more updates than you need. On the baby and the son-in-law.

In case anybody didn't know, I'm just about as proud of my son-in-law as any son I could have. </brag>

I don't think I like her kind of cookies as much as I like OUR kind of cookies. Ours have a better longer lasting flavor.

Cookies .... hmmm i can go for a long time without cookies. Pie, on the other hand, should be had regularly and in LARGE pieces. Preferably thick pie with lots of filling.
