The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hair: that was a bit of excitement, appropriate response, imho, glad it turned out as well as it did. Drunks are unpredictable.

2JM: just enjoying a cup myself, cheers.

OT: gardening is off the agenda today, 31 degrees, after being upper 70s last week. 30-40-50 next week. But tulips are coming up and saw a few iris coming up. Redbuds are out, that is a sure sign of spring around here.

RMD: your posts on the critters were great, Susan agreed those are nasty bugs, she used to live in Ft. Lauderdale. Did not care for the palmetto bugs one bit. In Arizona we did not have anything like it, for that she was grateful.

I have always wondered about the role of ticks in the Big Plan. Was out on a vegetative survey of a lake site thursday, lots of ticks out (winter didn't get cold enough to dent their numbers.) Had close call a couple of years ago from an infected tick, classic bullseye but got some antibiotics (the super stuff according to doctor) and subsequent tests were clear. If you're in the woods, you get tick bit, goes with the territory.

I'm watching yesterday's video from around Baghdad. It's looking like a bad post-apocalypse movie. Actually, it looks more like the scene where Robocop walks through the drug factory, shooting one druggie after another, to an impressive sound track.

I had to stop watching Fox after Eleanor Clift continued to defend the New York Slimes, which is apparently reporting on a different war on a different planet. That, and the repeated scenes where a handful of islamikazis escape in cars after checking out how badly their lead SUV was shot up. Damn! We should have gotten a hat trick.

The scenes of shooting up the car on the overpass, and the one that tried to ram the column showed off our shooting skills to better advantage. The US military isn't a steam roller, it's a giant self-propelled tree chipper. And these idiots are throwing themselves into it willingly. Oh well, stupid-and-evil is always a problem for those who choose that path.

I knew I liked you people. Good taste in movies!

We like Willis here a lot, but I'm not so fond of Oldman. He was great in Fifth Element, but... well, he's going to be in the next Harry Potter movie and I'm not sure he suits the part. Of course I don't think I've seen him in anything else.

Well! It's Saturday. What shall I do?

Good morning! - Hullo! - It's Sean Astin day!

If I say "meanwhile" during the movie will he laugh?

Wow, you had an exciting night! I'm glad you took care of things. Glad you didn't have to shoot him, either...

Pretty exciting night indeed!

Brother and I are talking about the winning of the war.... We figure, once you can drive around town pretty much wherever you want, and only get shot at as often as you would in Wa DC... You have pretty much won!

Yeah - Didn't have to shoot him, and I am glad I didn't let Gidget out. If she would have bit him, then I would have had to deal with him. I bet he has no memory at all of being here, and he doesn't have stitches in his butt to remind him.

heh... Yeah - I think I will just leave it on now!

Just called my Dad, and he is picking me apart for not calling 911 when I saw him, and for opening the door and confronting him probably. He would have rathered I grabbed the gun and called 911. And he thinks I should have called 911 afterwards anyway. I just don't think the guy was a threat to anyone, and he was tryin', though lost, to get home. His goal was to cut across my property to get there. Dad says "but you let him go wander into someone else's property" Yeah, I did, but this was not a guy in a rage or a guy with bad intent... just a night stumbler. He thinks that is for the cops to decide. I can see his point, Yes, it would have been good for me to call 911 before opening the door. I have a speaker phone and they could have just monitored the situation. But one time I would like for him to think I could judge a situation accurately.

Oh pooh! Downpour. So I'm inside for a while. Maybe the ground won't get too wet.

Oh yeah...our rosebuds are open, the wisteria is blooming, dogwoods and azaleas have just started. Think I'll put up the hummingbird feeder this weekend.

We had a huge thunderstorm last night. It went on for hours and the lightning was so bright! Today is gray and cool, not my kind of weather.

You guys seen ads for the 3D movie-documentary-exploration of the Titanic "Ghosts of the Abyss"?

Looks like a must-see thing! - Been ages since I saw a 3-D movie! - I think the last on I saw was the 3D Jaws. I remember the eyeball that popped at me so realistically that I ducked!

No, I haven't seen anything about that. I'm not sure we have 3-D movies around here.
