The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Ok. I'll ask. I'll forward his reply.
I haven't heard from him in a few days...I'm not going to worry this time though. He'll write.

It's to teach us Microweenies how to use Unix, I guess. He promised it was all hands on, real stuff. Um... I've never done Unix, so I need to learn, and it's three credits of CS, which I really need right now.

Sounds cool! I was wondering if it was the basics of using a Unix OS or if it was geared more towards programming for Unix. I doubt you'll have any problems with it!

Excellent about them being shipped right here. Drop me a card in the mail if you want to and I'll enclose it with the package.

That would be wonderful!
When I put the index cards in with this last batch, I put what specific item people donated at the bottom, if there was a specific item. Like your books...and Blackhawk's pennywhistles.

Thanks, Bear. That's encouraging!
I don't think there's anything I've wanted more than I want to go to grad school. You know how Rush is always urging people to find what they love and become the best there is at that? Well, that's what I want. Sometimes I can almost taste it...

It's a cake.
No luck on finding tropical chocolate, either online or at the local REI store. I'll try again tomorrow.
All this talk of our GIs being short of tobacco and chocolate got me to thinking about other things they might need. Based on other things I've read, combat troops are always desperately short of binoculars, which the military insist be accounted for like nuclear weapons.
One of my vices is collecting military binoculars. The current issue is a compact high-end Fujinon costing $300. (Still cheaper than a similar Leitz or Swarovski at $1k.) They're small enough to fit in a cargo pocket on BDU pants. But it's easier for a grunt to get his own Bradley than his own binoculars.
I have a pair of freebie red chinese compact roof prism binoculars I can donate. I also know that these things sell for under $20 apiece. They're lightyears behind anything good, but at least our troops won't have to sign their lives away for them, or get charged if they're lost or destroyed.
Here's the freebie I'll be donating. I'll be looking for more cheapies tomorrow.

It was a big day at the Stormhands household.
This morning Airborne Express attempted to deliver our season's passes for King's Dominion. We weren't home, so they left a note.
Not long after that, UPS tried to deliver the new computers. Still not home.
Then after the Mrs. got home, Fed Ex delivered our new cell phones.
The neighbor's are gonna think sumpins up...
Of course the bizarre thing is that none of the charges have hit the card yet...

He's setting up Op Sys as practically an online course. I never have to show up for a class but I can take the course. Yay! Terrific! And didn't you just get a brand spankin new computer? How timely!
