The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

OT & CS & Hair: Although Sammy got two long walks today, it's again too chilly for comfortable yard work; so today I tackled the workbench, whoa, was that a royal pain, but it's done, found all the "lost tools", "misplaced items" and several "projects in progress". Also swept up several pounds of wood shavings and sawdust, osage and hickory mulch anyone? It will probably stay clean for a day or so.
One of the things us wood bowyers try to do is spread the word and pass along the tradition of making your own tackle (bow stuff). Been corresponding by email with a "newbie" bowyer at Ft. Riley Kansas. When he gets a weekend off, he'll be heading over for some tips. Just passing it along.
BTW: Corin, you're a good man. er. dwarf.

Cool! Thanks!
Yes... the guys in Afghanistan are not out of danger yet... they still need our support and prayers.

Very good for you to pass on some tips to the new bowyer.
I love finding all the lost tools! I am looking forward to the spring cleaning of the barn where I can dust everything off and get re-organized. I haven't gotten around to *doing* it yet.... just the *looking forward to* part.

Hair; Cleaning up a barn isn't something that one just jumps into, it takes careful planning, youre just in the planning stage.
I guess the wood bow and arrow scene would be a welcome change of pace from the stuff they normally 'play' with there.
To: osagebowman
youre just in the planning stageExactly right.... and since my barn is also garage and shop, it takes extra careful planning!

I'm glad you liked the movie!
SPOILERS FOR "THE CORE" (if anyone cares)...
I counted each of the dead scientists as a Noble Sacrifice, since each one died either urging someone else to safety, or in saving the ship. I counted the astronaut commander as the requisite Accidental Death to Remind Everyone of the Danger. The 1/2 noble sacrifice was the Hero Scientist... he tried to sacrifice himself twice and survived both times! But, I counted him as 1/2 for the effort.
Although the female love interest didn't die, at least it seemed at the end that she and the Hero Scientist were not going to be a couple! Both too committed to their own careers....
(end spoiler!)

Some of you have already seen this, but I got an email just now from the chaplain we are dealing with in Afghanistan. As you know, there was an ambush there and two soldiers lost their lives. The chaplain writes:
Kim, I'm not sure if I ever responded to this email. I don't know if it has hit the Net yet, but some things have happened here very recently. Continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and their families.
I appreciate you and your friends,
"Renegade Chaplain"
My response was this:
Yes...it's hit the net. We know what has been going on and have already been keeping you in our prayers. We don't know too many specifics, but it's enough to know that you are having a hard time right now. Please tell your soldiers that I can guarantee more than a dozen people and their families all across this country are praying specifically for them during this time.
God bless, stay safe. I'll email you again Monday afternoon.
Kim
Let's remember them.

Thanks 2J.

I would love to go too! I have no idea how fast they might sell out, though. Are single tickets even available yet?
To: Penny1
Oh good! - You did check in! - I was so nervous you wouldn't I almost just up and called ya!
Tickets are not on sale yet... I checked Fandango. The article says Monday or Tuesday, and I will be looking!
FReep the theater though... they are pushing for the big theater (from Fandango, it may be an IMAX screen) instead of the small one. I would go either way though!

Sorry, the "I would love to go" is for the Symphony. Though I would also love to go see Sean and TTT, but I have stuff I simply can't get out of next weekend. :(
To: Penny1

What are we here for Penny?

I was up late last night waiting for SSQ to get in from CA, and was cruising through the channels. I came upon "Heavenly Creatures" and remembered it was one of PJ's films. In one of the scenes, Kate Winslet and the other actress are running out of a store in the downtown area, and as they are running, there's this bum walkig down the sidewalk toward the camera. They run up to him on either side and kind of start shaking his shoulders. It is PJ!! He gives them that scowly look that he used as the 'carrot man' in FoTR and as the 'wildman' in TTT. It was hilarious that I caught the movie right at that part!
