Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

MENU CHANGE
In a swipe at the French, 'freedom toast' debuts on Air Force One
[Ari Fleischer is not a hobbit - see last paragraph]
By Anne E. Kornblut, Globe Staff, 3/27/2003
NDREWS AIR FORCE BASE -- Still burned by French resistance to US war plans, the stewards aboard Air Force One joined congressional lawmakers and scores of diners nationwide in scratching the word ''French'' from its menu, replacing French toast with ''freedom toast'' on the flight to Florida yesterday.
According to the printed menu on board, passengers were offered ''stuffed freedom toast topped with strawberries,'' which included a cream-cheese stuffing. The breakfast dish became the latest casualty of US-French tensions, which led Congress to create ''freedom fries'' at its in-house cafeterias and has prompted a nationwide movement to boycott French products, including wines such as Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Although the French can take some credit for creating french fries -- which some history sources say actually originated in French-speaking Belgium -- there is little evidence that fried egg-battered toast originated in France or its environs. One popular legend holds that it was created by Joseph French, a restaurateur outside Albany, N.Y., in the 18th century, and that the dish took his name.
French speakers usually call their version of the dish ''pain perdu,'' or lost bread, and they sometimes serve it cold. The dish may have also originated among French-speaking Cajun chefs in Louisiana.
There was no word whether Bush had requested the menu change specifically. White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer declined the meal, and seemed unaware of the change. Asked whether the switch was official, Fleischer replied, ''I'm not a hobbit, so I didn't have a second breakfast. I had my breakfast before I came in. ''

No, I don't think so!Well, poop.
Maybe Ari is a Man of Gondor?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Punchy is good.
He doesn't seem like a man of Gondor to me... I think perhaps he is an elf. If he were a dwarf, he wouldn't have turned down the chow either.

Fine. I have killed the thread and now I need rest. It's not dead, it's just restin'. It's pinin' for the fjords. It will be back as busy as ever tomorrow.

Well I just got home from work, but now everyone else is in bed. That's OK I guess, I can always funkle if need be. I'm still not sure if I like this schedule, even though it pays a little more. Guess I'll just drink my hot chocolate and Bailey's, and try to catch up on the happenings around here. Hope everyone is well.

Those dinner/movie places would be fun! - We don't have those! We've decided to go Friday night (that's tonight), cause SSQ will be home very early Sat. morning. I got the days confused and thought he was coming home late Sat. He doesn't want to see the movie again (gasp!), so we're gonna go.
Seamus, are y'all doing anything Friday night? The movie starts at 7.

Ari may not be a hobbit, but I am, so I'll take his second breakfast for my third, LOL!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Maybe Ari is a Man of Gondor? How are we going to check his skivvie situation to confirm?

Goood morning and Happy Friday to you and yours!
Have a busy day so won't be around much. Have to go to a not-so-brief pre-brief with a boss-type guy on a topic that my group is supposed to brief later on. Even though the topic is his idea, he'll feel it necessary to rewrite everything he wanted written in the first place. *sigh*

Tanks.

Asked whether the switch was official, Fleischer replied, ''I'm not a hobbit, so I didn't have a second breakfast. I had my breakfast before I came in."LOL! I love it. Both Ari and Dubya have made several LOTR references over the last few months, no? I'm sure they see the parallels that could be drawn between Middle Earth and our current situation, just as we do!
