The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

He said "You watch that movie WAY too much!"

Heh, heh, haven't we all?

I am now of the DVD world and am on the hunt to find the best place to get the FotR Special Edition...

I got a JVC Progressive Scan-capable model (for when I go up to HDTV). It was marked down from $280 to $139 at Good Guys.

I have over $75 in book-buying cards. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Dune prequels are good. (However, I've yet to read Butlerian Jihad.) Stephen Lawhead's Celtic Crusades series is good too.

Thank you for recommending the Great Book of Amber.

Very good! - Now stop penny pinching and get yourself the DVD! Do I need to come and take you to the store myself?

You will need the progressive scan for even this DVD. I think that is what keeps me from having that "chapter-skip-pause-thing" that some people have experienced at certain points, like the cut directly after the Council of Elrond. Or maybe that problem was just in the first one.

I just bought the Special Edition for $29 on Amazon (and got the two-day shipping option, it'll take me that long to get the time to set up the DVD player -- I think.

I have a button on the remote that switches between progressive scan and interlaced -- some people have problems with progressive scan not working right if they don't have HDTV's. We'll see, I'll test it out both ways.

Actually, I only paid $25.99 for the "Platinum Extended Edition" (4-DVD's). Sounded like a pretty darn good price (when you consider some stores sell the VCR Tapes for $18, so I just bought it there and paid for the quicker shipping.

They just wanted me to think seriously about it.

It seems you are doing that! If it's not prying, do they have a date by which they'd like an answer to whether you'll move or not?

Grammar? What grammar?

But I think you can get it for $29.99 at Fred Meyer today. And it will come with a free ticket to TTT if you get it before 12/31. You need caffeine, Scott!

They said think about it over the holidays. Haven't gotten to any money discussions yet. Right now I'm trying to decide whether I want to move to KS or not. A lot of the people I'm working with now are going so it's not like I'll know no one.

I've been working with this company for almost a year. I like the work and the people I work with and (so far) the company has been generous with 2 raises, paying for all that time we were closed due to ice (without us having to use vacation days), and a Christmas bonus. They even allow freeping.

If I didn't like the work/people, I'd have said absolutely no.

Oh yeah....the move is supposed to happen in July.

I was wondering if you ever had your interview. Wasn't it scheduled for Thurs. the 19th? Hope everything is OK and that you had a lovely Christmas. I know it must have been a hard time for your Dad and brothers and sisters, but ya'll have each other to lean on, and that is a good thing.

It sounds like a great company to work for! Perhaps the ideal situation: work you enjoy, relaxed atmosphere, and good pay. Why is the company moving?

FX Movie channel just started showing "High Anxiety"... one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies!

Have you had a chance to watch anything on the DVD player yet?

No, it's still in the box. I'll get to it later today. I'm looking forward to it though. Picture quality was always okay on the PS2, but we had a lot of sound problems.

Why is the company moving?

We were bought out by another company and they had duplicate facilities in Stilwell. Our location lost out on the decision. :(

The remarkable result is the depiction of a human/animal bond that instills in the audience the sense that this intelligent animal is Aragon’s true companion, not just his horse.

I just don't want to comment about the fact that maybe it was being kissed by the horse that made Viggo want to buy him...

Should I go over and say that on the troll's thread in the Smokey Backroom?

I saw the theatrical release on Starz! yesterday. Did anyone else watch it and the little TTT special afterward?

No! - I don't get Starz either!

I also missed this year's National Geographic special on TTT that was on MSNBC Sunday. Anyone catch that? They replay their stuff, so the NG thing may be on again.

I wasn't too impressed with the NG special they did last year.

Well, the one they did last year showed a lot of behind the scenes stuff that was good. At the time, it was the first look we had of the sets, and the cutie-pie hobbitses! It only got weird with the guy on the trek at the end.
