The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Ray stops him with "Dad? Wanna have a catch?" I can't get through that scene (or writing about it apparently) without tearing up.

I haven't seen the film, but I am touched by your description of this moment!

I know exactly what you mean about the ignorance of how some people try to teach their dogs. I always recommend a good dog book. I've got lots of them and I don't mind loaning them out. It can be so frustrating. I recommend the same books to new parents for their parenting. Same discipline, pretty much.

Well, I did compel her to enroll in an obedience class. Hope she finds someone who can correct past mistakes, and has classes that deal in off-lead control. I hope her husband helps rather than hinders correcting the problem. He is a good guy, just with a heck of a temper where this dog is concerned, which I sympathize with after chasing him myself... nevertheless, temper must be overcome. and the escapes have to be avoided at all costs.

She wanted to use my shock collar (that I had for Logan when I hunted him) on the dog. I said no way. Using a shock collar on a dog that is already afraid will just fry his little mind. The shock collar is not to correct fear, but the dog who will give you the finger just because *not* listening seems more fun!

Here is Gidget "Plotzing" the little guy! Unfortunately or not, she let go of his neck eventually!

Hi everyone!

Corin, a toast to your dad from Miami! Today has been one of those days that really force you into reflection. I am so down about our KIA soldiers and our POWs.

Hair - Thanks for making me smile. Gidget is kicking that little fool's bootie, BTW! LOL!

Here's my contribution to the funny pics theme. I just took this one yesterday. Alyson is winning!

Cute pics. Cute cat. I have a technique that has always worked for me. I keep a pocket of cookies or hot dog pieces, what ever they like alot, and several times a day I say the word 'cookie' in a high pitched kinda happy voice. And when they come they get their snack. Then, when they are in those situations all I have to do is holler cookie in that voice and they come running. Even if I have nothing, they find out too late, Gotcha. Every time I give my dog a treat it is accompanied by the 'c' word, whatever it is.

Evening again. I'm getting ready to put Luke to bed, then I'm gonna stay upstairs and work on my closet. I'm packing away the fat(est) pants!

I'll be back tomorrow morning. Enjoy the Oscars, tell Sam to play it again...see y'all tomorrow.
