The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I am kind of a home-body these days...being unemployed and all. Not mixing as much!

Might be a good survival tactic.

I really wanted to hear "the liberation of Iraq has begun", but realistically, I knew that wouldn't be the case. Oh well! At least the clock is now ticking!

I always knew he'd give folks a chance to get clear; he's too compassionate, as is our military, not to. Some wags on FR have been dumping on him for supposedly 'letting Sadaam get away', but I think that the eyes in the sky will be tracking folks closely and will have a pretty good idea where they land up. All the better to "reach out and touch someone", when the time comes!

Mmmm, cheese biscuits. Thanks for breakfast!!

I'm with you on not watching much of what passes for entertainment on TV these days. The networks have been pushing the envelope for years, but I guess the folks who dislike that sort of stuff haven't been watching so haven't complained. I haven't watched the prime time sit com/dramas for well over 10 yrs. I'll catch part of a show sometimes if I'm watching TV and surfing, but the only show I've watched completely through in the last couple of years was two or three episodes of ER. Each time, it was more like soap opera, so now I don't even bother.

I read Dune Messiah over 15 years ago, but hadn't Duncan Idaho been killed? I thought in 'Messiah' he was some sort of ghoul. How is it that Alia hooked up with him? Was he 'resurrected' for this series?

We're having a nice gentle thunderstorm...

Wow. So in your part of the world folk recognize subtle differences and nuances to different thunderstorms. I guess it is like NWerners and our types of rain!

Hullo! - Good morning!

Have you guys been following the new Pneumonia threads?

I know the issue is there but I haven't followed it. I don't want to worry about viruses! What am I supposed to do about it?

Good morning!

Assuming a similar release date for the final movie, the Virgin articles will finish on the Friday before the movie is released.

Very good! He must be doing more than one chapter per article then. Does the source list which chapters are to be read each article so we can know how far to read ahead of time? - I am looking forward to starting my reading now on April 4. I will try to get the others interested too. We talked out Fellowship pretty thoroughly already, but it has been years since I read the Hobbit, and we can always review it again!

From John Howe's Website :

BOY, HAVE I GOT NEWS...

Unfortunately, I can't really share it with you...

Just returned from London where I had the immense treat of seeing the Two Towers in the lo-o-ong DVD version.
Naturally, it was an unfinished cut, and while I can't tell you what's in it, it'll certainly be worth waiting those extra months. Of course you must run to the shop in August and refresh your memories with the theatrical release on DVD or video, but you MOST definitely will want the extended version in November. Trust me.
Time to stop before I get carried away and say too much.

On the drawing board:
Have just handed over the first bits of the Map of Numenor to the editors, and on the drawing board are all the remaining portions to complete.

Trivia:
Went to Forbidden Plant and purchased a "Balrog: Ancient Demon of Fire Illuminating Votive Holder" (I didn't make up that title, it's on the box, honest!), which is kind of a glorified translucent resin candle holder in the shape of the Balrog's head and shoulders. Most curious. It would make a great nite lite outside the front door, but I don't know what the neighbours would think...

See you next week!

Good Morning!

Do you think that international calling cards would be good to send? I don't do international calls so I don't know where to get them or whose cards to buy.

Any Brad Dourif fans? I loved the PC game of Myst, and then Riven, and the last one Exile, too. He played a character in Exile, a strange twitchy kinda guy who clubbed me over the head in the end. Scared the heck out of me.

I couldn't figure out Myst. I wandered all over that island alone, read some books, and left not knowing what I came there for!
