The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Theodore Roosevelt said "Trouble never comes to those who prepare for it." It's good to do the safe room drills, 2Jmom, but don't lose sleep because of the threat. Do what you can and then move on, if you can think like that.
I loved that story about the guy shooting 3 burglars! Thanks for sending it to me. A similar but even better thing happened here about ten years ago. A guy running a bait shop had four guys come in and try to rob him. He killed three of the four, and the fourth got away. Police said "The fourth guy is not expected to return." Yeah, I imagine not!

The scandal if anyone found out the dwarves who have been secretly buying elf ears and wearing them when they think no one will see. *Ahem*

Heifer International
That is just wacky enough to work! You'll excuse me if I have this image of their Board of Directors being a bunch of 400 lb. unshaven wimmin with cropped hair?
That said, I like the sounds of what they do. Do you have contact info?

that's funny, because I think the same thing sometimes when I see jet-trails in the sky. It was so eeire that week after 9/11 not seeing any! Felt like a parallel universe! That night it hit me that Jr. was indeed paying attention. He took the dog out around 9:00 and came back in with a panicked look on his face and said "Dad, I heard a plane."
He knew all the planes had been grounded. I explained to him that our location between Hampton Roads (Langley AFB, etc.) and Washington, D.C. meant that we would be in the flight pattern for a lot of military aircraft...which is a good thing.

I've put this off for far too long...I'm going now...
Before I funkle. I need to get off my axe and get out in the yard. It's a clear day here! And it may even warm up.
In a bizarre sort of way, I'm looking forward to yard work. See y'all later.

There is a Heifer Intl. farm close to us. We haven't been there yet, but it is a favorite volunteering place for homeschool families in the area. They even have a week's 'camp' for homeschoolers in the late Spring. I don't think our kids will be going, though. They're not really 'animal people'. We will go out to tour the place, though.
You wanted info on the organization, well Here it is!
At Christmas, our Parish received enough in donations to fill a 'Gift Ark', that is, folks 'bought' enough animals for Heifer to send at least $5000 in animals to families who could use the leg up.

Good morning Suzi!
Morning Corin!
Morining heifers!
Today in a few hours I am going to drive down where a friend is showing her Collie dog for the first time. She is very new to this hobby, and I am going to give her some moral support. (Or make her nervous, who knows) Been filling her head with tips from what I know, she will probably show the dog like a Labrador and that will be all wrong! HA! Gonna bring the camera.

Gonna bring the camera.Oh boy! I love collies, especially Border Collies. I love Shelties, too; little miniature collies!!
To: SuziQ
Hers is one of the full-size long haired collies, a male.
It is a relative of this dog... I think. She got it from this kennel.

I may have already told you about us sitting in the living room at night..I think it was on the 12th...that evening...and the military helicopters flew RIGHT over our house? The whole neighborhood came running out because it was so loud and everyone knew it had to military, because of the no-fly rule.
A parallel universe is exactly how I would describe that time.

Roger that. Dog shows are a fairly low-key event. I'll be OK.

Good morning friends! We gt the house all clean and my grandparents will be arriving sometime in the next hour, but they won't be here too long. However I have to go shopping for more big lettuce leaves and some potassium, plus a present for a btother... at least after this birthday I'm the only one who has a birthday until October...
I faced the scale today and was really, really happy: I lost 10 pounds, without skipping a meal, feeling hungry, or taking weird supplements! That makes me feel so good you know what I mean?
I know I won't lose so quickly after the first few weeks... but wow!

Good morning!
Congratulations! - I never bought the scale like I was supposed to, so I don't know if I have good news or bad news when I do. Maybe I will pick one up today while I am out.
If there isn't too large of a crowd at the mall.

The 13th... Will's going to be 9. He's pretty much a miracle baby... my mom had complete placenta previa and was on bedrest for months, then he came a month early. Will's second-youngest.
