The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'd have had great fun with y'all, back in the day....

Naww...you wouldn't have liked me...I was attempting to self-destruct.

Thank God He saw the future and spared me.

He reminds me of so many I meet who think they are still Democrats, but aren't. The Democrat party left them years ago, but they are hanging on to the ghost tails of what it used to be. I consider it my job to re-educate them on that. Usually a matter of them not having done much non-fiction reading lately.

Just what the heck is Orlando looking for there?

He is saying a prayer at the orc-pile in TTT, where he believes Merry and Pippin have perished.

Legolas:
Hiro hyn hîdh ab 'wanath.
[Translation: "May they find peace after death."]

(seems to remember Miss Hair was complimented by similar remarks aboot her feet several weeks ago.)

Wimmin are fickle that way! You will never keep up.

Eh - I have partial memories like that too.

Self-destructive, maybe, but undoubtedly the time of my life. I took a Navy recruiter home from a career fair. And then didn't enlist!

I have a fishing buddy who is a "socialist." Yet he despises affirmative action, believes in rkba, thinks Clinton was a disgrace, loves our Constitution, etc. I once heard him refer to himself as a "closet Republican."

I think, though, as a retired college professor, he feels like he is just supposed to be some sort of leftist.

One of the best of many reasons not to keep one around the house.

No, I never did that again...

But I was walking home from a bar and saw a guy on a motorcycle stopped at the red-light. I ran over, jumped on his motorcycle and asked if he'd take me for a ride! He said "Sure!" and off we went...100mph down the interstate. I was 18 and he was 34. After a great ride, he brought me back, took me out to eat breakfast (including my friends) and made sure we all got home ok!

I've been very fortunate in my stupidity. I was just clueless. I didn't even understand how a checkbook or ATM card worked. You have to remember, I was treated like, and considered myself the dumbest and the most useless person on the earth.

I'm still treated that way, but I don't consider myself that way anymore. Took years to get to this point, but thankfully, I got there before any kids were born. There was a reason I didn't have my babies till I was 34!!

Yes, I think no matter how long Sean thinks he is a democrat.... he is a good egg, with the right values. And I have hope (please!) in Elijah Wood as well.

I had some good times too...but those happened in my mid-twenties. I started growing up and getting wiser. That's when I learned the trick of drinking only coke when I was out and giving the Time and Temp number as my phone number!

I got very smart. ;-)

Gosh, I don't have any real drinking stories to share... one time a girlfriend determined she was going to get me drunk, so she mixed up a very potent batch of "Long Island Tea"; I drank about 12 ounces of it and became mildly inebriated, but I sobered up in about an hour or so. That was about 15 years ago, and I never bothered to try again...

Hope your voice comes back in time. Not to press or anything, but have you seen a doctor about it?

Oh, and did you get my FReepmail?

Well, Bear, your story is OK too... Excess isn't required, it just makes for a better story.
