Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"Cheesy no likey!"Yep, that's it! And I think the woman's name is Yzma (pronounced EEZma).
"What did she look like?" "Uhhh...scary beyond all reason?

Well, up until I quit drinking.... I never let a guy outdrink me. Overall probably a very stupid policy.
Disclaimer:
I realize there are a lot of hearty dwarves here in the Hobbit Hole who could have easily done so... so don't get your snowpants all in a wad.... (I'd have said skivies but we know that wouldn't work) but back then I didn't know ya'll.
To: Dawntreader; Corin Stormhands
Ce BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
I like Mr. Lunt's cheeseburger song, too.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm never touching Tequila again. I could do without ever smelling it too. Yes, I speak from experience, and no, I won't be sharing LOL
To: Corin Stormhands
ROFLLLLLLLL!!!!
To: Dawntreader; HairOfTheDog; 2Jedismom
Wow, what is it here? A tequila conspiracy? My bad blowout was with rum. I don't ever in my life want to ever smell anything spelled with the letters R U and M again. It just don't agree with me.

I realize there are a lot of hearty dwarves here in the Hobbit Hole who could have easily done so... Maybe back then. These days I'm more likely to fall asleep than get drunk...

Ok so I'll say a little bit of my experience. It was about 7 shots for me and in about the same time frame as you too. I had eaten with a friend at Wendy's and I was still really full. I was slamming them down going "This is so weird because I have a very low tolerance for alcohol and I'm feeling nothing!" So I kept going, not knowing that, HELLO, it'd catch up for me. I never threw up so much in my life that night or the next morning.
I never want to taste it, smell it or see it ever again!

OK Here is the definitive word on Sean Astin and politics... From
TheOneRing.net
Meaghan transcribed this interview with Sean Astin in People Magazine:
The Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin, 32, visited the White House recently to join the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, a 25-member group that will encourage volunteerism in all 50 states and, perhaps, Middle Earth. Scoop inquired about the gig.
"How were you picked ?"
"I was at a memorial service for 9/11 at the Pentagon (last year), sitting next to a lady who worked in the White House Personnel Office. She said the President was about to announce a panel on service and asked if I'd be interested. I said "I'm a Democrat !" She said, "It's bipartisan." No problem; I'm proud to serve."
"What happend next ?"
"In January I had a meeting in the White House. It was pretty cool sitting opposite former Sens. Bob Dole and John Glenn and (former Washington Redskin) Darrell Green."
"Did you get any souvenirs from the White House ?"
"The service pin they gave us to wear. I got some White House M&Ms, but I can't find them. I menu from the White House mess."
"So how are you going to get people to volunteer ?"
"President Kennedy said, "Ask not what you country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Just remind people of that."
"What will you do ?"
"My daughter, wife, and I are trying to figure out something we can do together, maybe work at a soup kitchen."
"Do you recall the first time that you volunteered ?"
"My mom and dad (Patty Duke and John Astin)would host a New York portion of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. I was about 7. My brothers and I would answer phones and take pledges, do pitches for people to send money."
"Would you consider Lord of the Rings's Samwise Gamgee as being a volunteer for Middle-Earth ?"
"Sure."
The bad news that he is not really a Republican is, to me, overshadowed by the bigger fact that I think he is a real stand up guy. He is a good kind of Democrat, not the bad kind. A nice guy and a patriot. A guy with no connections at all at that point, who attended the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon. He may even turn 'our way' in time, he's young! And he is getting some good exposure to good Republicans in this project and his morale appearances for the military.

These days I'm more likely to fall asleep than get drunk... You are in good company master dwarf.
To: Wneighbor
I'm pretty sure the very large guy looked across the table at a 97lb very determined and partially crazy girl and thought, "She ain't gonna quit till she dies" and gave up for my benefit.
It was nice that he took me for the dinner.
To: HairOfTheDog
Sean would be a great Republican!
I'm fast becoming a Sean Astin fan! :^)

Great Post! I was just a little bit younger than Sean when I figured out that I wasn't really a democRAT. (I was raised in Texas I thought I had to be.) He still has the brains to figure out his true self.
To: 2Jedismom
I'm laughing out loud at you. I probably won more my my insane stubbornness than actual tolerance for alcohol. Do it or die pretty much sums up the attitude.

I'm going to cut out of here for a bit and go get my oil changed before I put 700 miles on over the next 48 hours. Back in a bit.
